Working in cool weather

Today was my first residential job for 2016 and had a few issues I think we’re caused by cool temps. I have been searching for years for a good gutter Chem and was extremely happy when I found preasure tek’s F 13. It didn’t work well at all today, and I used it straight, with way too much scrubbing. My house wash mix Is lemonator With 4 gal 12% sh and still took a very long time to kill the mildew, granted my sh is 5 months old, but I think it is still good. What Chems are you guys useing in the northeast during spring?

F-13 won’t work unless it’s around 70 degrees min.

Same goes with the house wash. Under 60 degrees requires a stronger mix.

You can always use hot water to increase the strength of the solution your using in cooler weather.

5 month old SH is going to be very weak.

I’ve read that 12% SH loses ~ 1.5% per month in a relatively cool environment.

I am in Canada and I use 7 degrees celcius or 45 degrees fahrenheit or warmer
before I will wash a home.Even at these starting temps, make sure the SH is
fresh, or dwell time may be long if the SH works at all. Client knows the gutters
are not going to clean up at these low starting to wash temps. I always suggest
wait for warmer temps!

SH tends to stabilize around 5-6%. The problem was the temperature. When it gets below 60 your mix will not work near as well and f-13 I don’t use under 70. Someone else mentioned using a hot water machine but you have to be careful because some windows only need a 60-70 degree difference in temperature to crack and then you will be buying someone a new window. Hope this helps.

Temps need to be over 60 for F-13 and it needs to be mixed properly for best results. It needs water to work.

i usually pre wet the gutters.

F-13 needs to go on dry gutters.

After 5 months your SH will be way to weak unless you add a small amount of costic to it, You can also ad baking powder to it which will also bring it back to life a little but you may have left that to late.
