this is a good thread. something you guys might want to look at is what’s called an “approach shoe”. it’s basically a cross between a mountain climbing shoe and a light hiker. they are usually pretty burly, but designed with fabrics that make them waterproof and breathable at the same time.

also, since they are designed for traction on rock, they use a softer stickier rubber sole than what you would find on a trail shoe or work boot. i’ve been using this style for years and i find the grip on any surface to be much better. they also usually have a lightweight shank built into the sole. this makes them stiffer along the sole, so you get much more support for your foot when standing on ladder rungs, etc.

they aren’t too hot for summer work, if you pair them with the right sock.

here’s the one i’ve been using the last two seasons (i do mostly window cleaning now, but have used these for house washing and flatwork and stayed pretty comfy.)

there are lots of brands that make shoes in this category, so look around. this may be a good alternative if you only want to wear one piece of footwear for all your work.

I like the Columbia outdry hiking type shoes. Totally waterproof, comfort of tennis shoe. For boots I use slip on Georgia boots. All water proof slip resistant, and they look good.

Great idea Caleb. I’ve worn that type of shoe for outdoor pursuits. It never occurred to me to use them for pressure washing. I bet they work great.

Mucks all the way for me.

cool

The last two I’ve tried were Keen. Both had the waterproof line and the last was their Newport with that great toe wrap around and the razor sniped sole for grip. both were very comfortable and grippy for a shoe but the chems (mostly house wash) eventually ate through the threads and they leaked after 4 to 6 months. Way to pricey for that kind of life. My next shoe is going to be the Frogz mid length rubber boot.

That is one of the bad part about working with SH, it will eat most fibers if you get it on you.

Anyone have any experience with LaCrosse® SPOG 12" Rubber Boots? They claim they are chemical resistant.

I’ve always had good luck with Lacrosse boots for hunting. Have had a pair of their rubber boots for out in the swamps. Pretty comfy and kept the feet dry. As far as chemical resistance… most rubber boots are until you start getting into really hardcore chems.

Im trying the Spogs next. The Mucks slip on my heel too much and become really painful If you have to do a lot of walking.

I like the idea of rubber boots but I need ankle support so a good pair of work boots are my go to. Last pair were Carolinas and they went 8 months without a drop of water getting through

be careful which shoes you get.
Not sure of the best way to warn ya because the shoes felt ok at the store, but after a week of wearing them, my heels began KILLING me.
I got a better pair short after, but now if I stand for too long they still occasionally bother me.

They don’t make souls like they used to. When I buy shoes now I immediately put gel inserts in. No problems here

good idea.
I did just turn 25 so maybe that’s about the age where your body starts showing wear and tear.
I did grow up doing country boy work

I think you still have about 5-6 years till you get there.

that really depends on how you treat your body, their are plenty of guys 60 years old running marathons I doubt they would have a issue running a washer all day. But I would suggest that you start now saving for retirement, every month no matter what by the time your 45 you will be set if done correctly. MOst important thing anyone can do is save every month IMO

boy, wouldn’t that be nice

I really enjoy Timberland work boots. Not the most waterproof but for light cleaning they work well.

yea those are my favorite, I wish they wood stay water proof, they are comfy
