Wood siding prep

Hi Guys.
My brother asked me to wash the house to prepare for painting. Wood siding, paint peeling. He also wants the deck done afterwards. Deck is stained over 5 years ago.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks

All the loose and or flaking paint has to be removed and sanded so new paint has a stable base to adhere to. It needs to be re-caulked too. On the deck, it looks like everything has weathered off of it except a few spots. How you approach it will depend on what the previous coating was. You can use a little SH and see if it brightens but you have to be careful since an older water based coating will fool you if it is not completely cooked off by the sun. Check for spots that have had little to no sun, try the bleach there. If you are still not sure try a little denatured alcohol on a cloth and rub vigorously. If no color comes off it’s oil if color comes off its water based. They take different types of strippers. It looks pretty weathered so there will probably be sanding involved. Be careful on both the siding and the deck with the PW because you can ruin wood very quickly with too much pressure too close to the wood. There are a ton of more detailed posts here so look at them in the search feature. Gotta go stain a fence…
