Hey all!, i’m a 21 yr old based out of Miami, Fl. Tried looking for a thread on here with women , like myself, who are interested in starting a pressure/soft washing Business themselves. Unfortunately, in the 5 mins ive put into searching, ive had no luck. Lol , so im starting this thread in hopes to find other women and share a little motivation. I’ve been told this is a mans job and i should do the office work for it instead. I have yet to start washing but im hoping to start this week. Ive been doing a lot of research the past few weeks and i finally came across this website… boy am i thankful. Will be spending the next few days on here hoping to expand my knowledge as much as possible and meet new people along the way.
Only equipment i have is an Excell 3100 psi 2.8gpm washer, jrod, a 1 gal. Hand pump and the small chemical kit from Pressuretek.com
Will be practicing on my home and family’s until i’m confident enough to advertise. If you have tips that havent already been shared, i’m all ears. Thanks guys
First off, you can do this. I don’t know what the market is in Miami for pressure washing, but I know its crazy competitive for window cleaning. You can overcome that with hustle and doing good work that you charge appropriately for, and of course good customer service.
Funny thing, mans work seems to change based off what men want to do, so don’t listen to that. (Respectfully of course as I’m sure its coming from family/friends) once you have consistant success after a few years and start making more than most or all the men in your family most will respect you I think. (Or be mad )
It would help us to know what your goals are? Are you trying to build a company or just a side hustle? If you have access to funds then I would upgrade your equipment to at least a 4k 4gpm machine as that is usually considered the minimum to do what we do. Your pressure is fine on your current machine, but the gpm is usually what does the cleaning more than the pressure. If you don’t hopefully someone else will chime in as I didn’t start with a small machine, so thats not something I can help with.
Spend more than a few days researching, more like 3 hours a day until you reach at least 70-80 hours. Think of everything you might need to know from how you customer first finds out about you to when you collect a check and set up a follow up time for another service a year or two down the road. When you are around town look at buildings and think about how you would clean them, then spend at least an hour researching a question before you ask it. Best of luck, this is a great forum and business to have!
Welcome! There’s days and days worth of reading on here, settle in and bookmark every post that strikes you. My best tip is never wash anything until the business is insured. Without insurance, especially as a startup, all you’d have to do is kill one expensive bush and you’re sunk.
Get business cards so people can have something to share with neighbors and grow your presence. I give each customer 3 cards, one for them, a neighbor, and a friend. Facebook page is a cheap way to have a page to show off what you can do. When you have the funds or opportunity get a website. Welcome and best of luck in your venture
Really want to start a business up with it, learn what i can , enough to pass knowledge onto others and eventually hire more people to work with or perhaps for me. Unfortunately , my job closed over the weekend with no notice and when i walked in for my shift yesterday i was so stuck because i have $250 in my bank and i might have to save that for whatever else i might need along the way. I live in a relatively small neighborhood in a big city with no truck or trailer of my own. All of our townhomes have block paver driveway and backyard. Ive thought of offering pressure cleaning just in my neighborhood until i can put the money on something like a nissan nv200. Thing is, a lot of people have said if u pressure clean pavers, you have to re-sand and seal it. I dont mind doing the extra work because i can charge up to $1-2 per sqft versus the .25 - .90 average for washing alone.
My driveways are very small So hopefully i can get the majority of homes here. Luckily , all around my neighborhood there are some much bigger homes and i might be able to talk my stepdad into lending me his truck for a few jobs later on.
My gf was my helper for last 8 yrs before she passed. She was a better painter than the guys ive hired and she worked many of p.w jobs by herself. Im a firm believer in woman doing this. Best of luck to you but all you need is drive and determination and a eye for detail.
My condolences, i bet she was badass. Thanks man
Hey Flo! I was wondering the same thing. If there were any other women on here lol. I’m also in Florida, but in the Panhandle! I’m a newbie…
Trudi Weickum from Pan Handle Power Wash is in the industry. She washes daily. She’s awesome and incredibly kind. https://panhandlepowerwashsupply.com/
She’s probably near you.
I have talked with her. And she is only a couple hours from me. I ordered some chems from her a couple weeks ago. And yes, she is very nice.
