Wiring Help Needed

Yes, you’re correct, after finding that spec, I’ve decided to go with 2 gauge because I have to run it between 6-8’

I’d like to do that, but I’m going to use 8 gauge wire for my reel and 12v pump, and I’d rather not use spade connectors, but the fuse blocks I’m finding will only accept spades, whereas I can use wring terminals on a bus bar. (Unless I’m missing something…To say I don’t know what I’m doing with wiring is a huge understatement)

Use a bus bar with ring terminals and solder in your online fuses or something like this

Does everything require a fuse. I want to use this buss bar for LED lights in my trailer and 12v transfer pump. The pump has a fuse but do led lights need a fuse?

No they don’t. I have 4 LED 12V lights with no fuses

I have a breaker for my reels and pump but not for my led lights or the schertz box but that doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t have them. Fuses are there as a safety net Incase a surge happens so it doesn’t burn your equipment up and instead it burns the fuse and cuts of the power to your equipment to protect it. Breakers do the same thing, when there is a surge it breaks the connection but instead of replacing it like a fuse you just flip the switch and connect it back

Thanks for the suggestion! @Innocentbystander

That busbar you linked only handles 30 amps. My reels need 40 amps. I was going to use a 40 amp breaker after the busbar. Will the busbar supply power through the circuit if I don’t put a fuse in it.

If you can jump a car with 10 ga cables 15+ feet long, you can start a gx690 with 4 ga 8 feet long. You have to remember, this is a very short term load. How long does your starter motor actual crank for?

If you look at wire gauge charts, they are usually based on continuous load, not intermittent. The risk comes when the wires heat up from driving too much current for extended periods.

That’s my take, anyway. But you’ll never hurt anything by going larger on cables if you have it at your disposal. I have 0/1 gauge power wire between my truck’s starting battery (a deep cycle marine battery) and my reels. That’s a run of less than 20 feet.

I don’t know, but when I don’t know and need to know, I buy stuff and tinker until I know what I needed to know

It’s cheap enough to try out. I searched the internet but I can’t find the answer yet. Let you know when I figure it out.

The one that @Innocentbystander linked will not pass power without the fuse installed, it would be a very odd design if it did. It most likely has a common rail that runs down the center of the unit that all of the fuse sockets connect to, and installing a fuse in a socket completes the path to the positive terminal lug on the side. Something like this would work for what you described: https://www.remybattery.com//power-distribution-bus-bar-4-point-positive.html?gclid=Cj0KCQiAvbiBBhD-ARIsAGM48bxAmAhS4HClWwGMMy-1h7nbw2r2PSch4o5EUkqRt5JqFKuiHahRbyYaAo9xEALw_wcB

Are your hose reels 40A each or 40A total? If total, the fuse block would work, you would just have them each on a separate terminal with a 25A fuse (assuming 2 reels).

The reels are 35 amp each. Can I ground two reels and a Shertz box on the same screw into my enclosed trailer metal wall studs?

You should be able to do that. Just make sure to use large enough ground wire for each connection.

The metal wall studs connect to the metal of the trailer frame, correct? I’ve never had an enclosed trailer.

As long as the studs have a metal-to-metal connection back to where you grounded your battery, that would work. You could also use a black bus bar like the one I linked and create a return back to the battery of you aren’t sure. You still want to fuse your power wire, preferably within 12 inches of your battery.
