Why’s my insurance so expensive?!

Someone messaged me about their insurance rates with the exact same company (Scottsdale) and their rate is 2.5x mine for the same coverage. Here’s the thing about insurance. Commissions are a percentage of premium. If a random company has little experience in our industry they may as well put you under a NAIC code that boosts their bottom line. Not saying they all do, but some very well may.

561790 Cleaning building exteriors excluding sandblasting

That’s my NAIC code. No fleet washing. Lifts only above 2 stories. Etc.

Ask your agent what the limitations of your policy are and your NAIC code is. I.e. ladders up to 3 stories. That extra story may be increasing your premium.

Lastly, if your NAIC code is different anywhere than it is on your D&B report that’s a red flag when you go to apply for business only credit. And if you fall under any repair or construction-ish NAIC (even painting and some pressure washing companies do) good luck ever getting favorable business only loans.

Hopefully that’s helpful, Merry Christmas, and good luck!

Its also based on number of years in business, how much revenue you generate , how many workers, different riders you carry, deductibles, types of buildings you work on etc etc… A lot of people assume their insurance covers much more than,it actually does. For example most think their car insurance covers their trailer and its contents… Nope. People don’t ask their agents enough questions…
