Why Did You Start Your Pressure Washing Biz?

Hey all,

I want to start a thread where people can share why they got in business for themselves and started a pressure washing business. Hopefully, this can be motivation for others and see if we have any commonalities!

I can start it off - I’m starting a pressure washing business because I see it as a good opportunity right now to sanitize homes while making some money doing it! Currently in college so I’m thinking this will be a good way to generate some cash during the summer months while also providing top-notch service to my community!

Got tired of people asking if I “also pressure wash”.

Same here. Demand for pressure washing from my window cleaning client base made it a no brainer. At this point there really is no difference for me between window cleaning and pressure washing. My pressure washing trailer comes with me everywhere I go and the two just go hand in hand. Pressure washing is such an easy upsell too.

I started my business the same reason anyone starts a business; to make money. It is nice to help people make their homes look great. However, the only reason I’m washing instead of doing something else is because it’s profitable and I’m able to provide for my family.

I started as I was looking to bring in another stream of income on top of my full-time job. I thought about lawn care, but opted for pressure washing due to initial costs and the ability to fit everything into the back of one truck and also in my garage. I had dabbled in straight-up pressure washing when I was a teenager and thought why not try again. There is a great feeling of satisfaction knowing that I can clean a home (even as basic of a clean as I can currently provide) and make the homeowner feel like they have the cleanest house on the block.

I recently added pressure washing to my lawn business due to demand. After doing a couple of houses, I may transition my business to pressure washing only. As of now, this is a part the gig until the boat gets closer to the dock!

Window cleaning Customers asking for it, calls for it. So demand was there.

I was sick of getting told by another man when to wake up every morning to go make him a good living while my earning was capped based on what he thought i was worth.

It always appealed to me, I started window cleaning to fund my equipment and it’s worked out pretty good. I was also tired of making other people money and only getting the crumbs.

Pretty much the same reasons as everyone else. I have been in the landscape industry for 20 years. Every time I thought I found a good boss, at some point they revealed some serious issues. The last boss was doing 400k in sales with 13k in total profit. Labor was well over 50%. It wasn’t my business to run and there were other problems. Reasons like these are the reason I started a business at 23. I had a lawn business of my own 15 years ago. Forgot how good it felt to be on my own. I have missed the customer relationships I built in the past and look forward to the new ones I’ll build from here on. You just can’t do that working for someone else. I have learned a lot over the years and the last two weeks have been 3 a.m. bed times between all of the research here and in YouTube. Obviously money is a big driving factor for going into business, but it’s definitely more than just that. Very much looking forward to being part of this industry and aquiring all of the knowledge I can. I also took the last 400 dollars I had and bought a pressure washer. M5xjet and so on. I’ve managed to make 1k a week the last two weeks. Now, to keep it rolling.

Haha this seems to be the most common answer!

Same here! Low initial costs made it appealing for me as well
