I was perusing somewhere in here and saw this hat off Amazon mentioned. I have never worn a hat working before and always gotten pounded and glasses absolutely decimated by SH. This thing works like A dream and is now a staple in my arsenal. Buddy took a pic of me in it.
You have no idea. I didnāt spend any time on the boat this winter. In October I tore a tendon in my elbow and needed surgery on it, and then ended up in shipyards in a different city 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off with no overtime. So it is Essentially a pay cut and way worse work.
Itās been brutal. We come out of shipyard in July and go back in in December. Itās not been my favorite.
Hey, thatās my hat!!! ⦠but, uh, you can keep it. Mine is slightly sun bleached after 3 years but still going strong. Many trips through the laundry. Itās right up there with the JLabs on my āmust have listā.
Sort of. My knees are absolutely shot And I need a few surgeries to fix them that I just donāt have the time to do so jujitsu is out. Iāve been doing striking training as much as I can when Iām in town, so a couple times a week if able. Iāve been asked to coach a striking class here and have been playing with that idea but I have so little free time already that might be a pile dream. It would be a good as well as natural transition from fighter to coach but Iām not sure Iām ready for that. So, I try and lift 5 days a week, and do a few martial arts classes. The home/life balance in summer is absolutely brutal so workouts are suffering so that I can make more money doing PWing.
I forgot my Jlabs the other day and just about decided to call it not being able to listen to podcasts. Definitely made the day go slower. Iām leaving the hat in the work truck so I canāt forget it at all. Appreciate the pro tips. If you have any more feel free to share them
I feel you. Dr wanted to do a knee replacement in January/february but I told him no. I would loose my entire season after recoup rehab. My miniscus keeps tearing du to arthritis. My training days are long gone. I asked the dr if he could give me titanium knees or bionics , he laughed and said no. he asked why I would want it, I told him so I could kick someone through a wall or a cage. He looked at me weirdly, so I am guessing he never fought or trained.
that is a tough transition from fighter to trainer, not many can really do it or are any good at it. I used to teach a kids class for beginning strikers, that was fun, kids are great and donāt come in with bad habits.
Yeah my meniscus is torn as well. The last time I went to striking I was just stretching and it caught like 3 times. my body is telling me I need it shaved down I think. Thatās next on the list.
My doctors donāt really get it either. As long as they donāt ask me about my 20 or so lifetime concussions for my coastguard physicals, I donāt mind too much. I just keep on adapting and keeping on. Ill tell you, getting old sucks. Im only 39 but hoo boy. Hard miles haha.
Here i am randomly reading this because i hurt my (tendon?) or something and i canāt use my left hand right now. Good thing i have a great helper currently. Not as fast one guy basically working on his own but at least weāre getting jobs done. If i was alone i would have to take days off to heal, especially since we do a lot of ladder work and itās not the best handling ladders one handed.. Another reason to not work alone. Do you guys work alone? Have you considered getting a helper?
I used a retired guy 2 summers ago. He was really old so I basically used him for when I was on roofs and heād spray house down. Heād help with setting up and breaking down, and was the cleanup guy while I was on roof.
Iād love to have a guy who was doing it on his own. My fear, and this might be crazy might be real is that Iām essentially training competition. If people found out how much I make up here vs what I would be paying them, they would HAVE to start up their own business.
Since Iāve been home from my real job (10 days) Iāve grossed over 8k. I keep trying to get a friend I can trust to go in with me so we can do it together and share the wealth but so far heās been disinterested in just seasonal work. I put an ad on Craigslist looking for part time helper and was thinking about trying out a college aged kid to see if that would work for me. Still mulling it over.
Yes, you have to choose wisely. And this situation happened to me (training future competition) but itās unavoidable (and after awhile at least he moved in a different area out of respect).
