I have a metal roof job coming up, and I need to find sodium Metasilicate. I’ve searched the forums and google until I’m blue in the face, but I haven’t been able to find a supplier or even a trade name for it. Can anybody help me out with this?
I believe sodium metasilicate is one of the main ingredients in the tsp substitute that lowes and Home Depot carry. One of the guys on another forum told me about it a few years ago when I was doing a metal roof. Might help in a pinch.

Thank you, Jason! I’m on the hook to do an unpainted metal roof in a couple of weeks and the more I learn about it, the more confused I’m getting. I’m really paranoid about oxidizing or rusting it, and the sodium metasilicate is the only advice I’ve found so far. I did talk to a chem company in town today, and they said they can get it…I’m just not sure if it’s the best route for me to take.

That’s also how I heard about it. I did a few non painted, galvanized metal roofs a few years ago and was afraid I was going to cause them to rust. We ended up using a sodium hypochlorite solution and had no issues. Never even tried the sodium metasilicate.

How does Sodium Metasilicate help with metal roofs? This would be good to know as we have a huge contract at 120 store locations in the south east, all with metal awnings.
