When your battery dies in front of a customers house

Welp…this is embarrassing. Good thing I work at a tow company in the winter. Currently waiting on a boost and hoping I can get a truck by the end of this week.

I have AAA for these type of issues

Use your roof pump battery lol. Well it might not have enough cracking amps. I keep a battery charger and a drop cord on the trailer for my roof pump just incase.

Why not ask the customer for a jump? It happens to all of us.

He was inside with his young grandchildren and his wife left while I was washing. I didn’t even bother asking.

Got one similar to this thing for a gift. Mine will jump your truck through the 12v cigarette lighter thing so you don’t even have to get out if I remember correctly.

Got a hand crank flashlight that will also charge your phone that’s surprisingly effective too.

Every time I’ve needed a tow through AAA, it’s taken the subcontractor hours to get there. I think those calls get bottom priority.

Those little battery chargers work very well. I keep one in my van.

AAA and CAA pay their contract companies like garbage…They have a hard time getting companies in some areas and are unable to keep a good amount of their own drivers on the road due to the poor pay. Tow truck drivers are some of the hardest working people I know of. Long hours, dangerous work, and lots of angry customers.

That might depend on your location, here in Los Angeles the 2 times I have needed them they have responded in under 30 minutes… Not bad

I drove a wrecker for four years. AAA got put that the bottom of the list. In the mid 90’s they paid $15 for a lockout, tire change, jump start or tow under three miles

As a dispatcher they were no fun to deal with. Pay our drivers like crap and expect fast ETA’s. The company ended up dropping them…That was a good day lol

It’s 35$ now but most drivers only get ~30% of that.

That was the same here the last time I dealt with them. 5km free and I think light service only paid $30.

My sister had a flat. She called AAA because she was covered with them and the guy came out got a attitude and showed her where her spare tire and jack was and left. Wished a could have a face to face conversation with this guy.

Not aure if this guy was with AAA but my alternator went out in my other truck at 10pm at night in the middle of nowhere and my insurance sent a guy out from a county 1hour 30mins away. Took him 2 and half to get there. Super nice guy but he told me he sleeps at the shop mon.-fri. Because its the only way he can get atleast 1 hour of sleep. I tipped him with some deer tenderloins he was thrilled.

This would’ve given you a prime opportunity to blow the dust off of your skateboard, lasso a moose, and flip tricks all the way to your nearest Canadian Tire. You could’ve even stopped and got a blueberry donut on the way back for you maybe even one for the moose if you felt like going a little faster. Granted, one downfall would be you wouldn’t have been able to listen to The Wiggles Movie soundtrack like you do while in the truck.

I run a huge cable to the back and the machines start off the truck battery. If anybody runs a battery down in the field I can walk them through a quick little rewire and the machine will recharge the truck :battery:

Like your last post, some of them can be the worst but most are great people who genuinely enjoy helping others.
