Have a friend who has sold a job for me that will be about a $750 job. He may be able to send more my way. I want to give him a cut of the work he brings in… what would a fair percentage be? I know that if it became where he was an official salesman, or whatever, it might be different… but what’s a ballpark figure for commissions on stuff like this? 10%? 15%? 25%? More?
Honestly, if it’s a friend, tell him thanks. Anything you pay someone and don’t report you are taxed on. If he makes a lot of sales pay him and 1099 him
I give $25 dollar prepaid Visas to customers that refer someone a new client.
If $750 spot him $50 and say thanks…
Everyone does books differently so I’m just curious. What do you or your accountant list that $25 or $50 under? If i use the wrong credit card and buy a pepsi and pack of nabs with a company card I get an email telling me how I have to reimburse the company because it’s not a legit expense.
to my friend it would be CASH…now a high roller like you make him do a 1099 go through your CPA…
My CPA would not know…
Graft.
They have an expense category for that, right?
Fatdaddy no need to keep editing your posts. I screenshot them all before you try to hide your words lol
After 15 referrals, they earn a free house wash…lol
NO I ADDED 1099 to my post, did not hide anything lol not paying attention to your screenshot
25 or 50 bucks is a “thank you”. If you want to motivate somebody with a commission, you have to bust out Ben Franklins. It might be one of those things that sounds good, but when you get right down to it, it is cheaper to go out and get your own customers.
It has nothing to do with being a high roller. It’s about being a legitimate business owner. My question was, what business expense do you list payments under if they are not employees or commissioned salesmen?
i deleted the whole post is what I ment to do…
Tbh, if I had a friend sending me a lot of work, I’d try and find some non-monetary way of thanking them. Take them out to dinner, wash their house, return the favor if they were also in business.
If cash was the only thing I could think of, it would be coming out of my personal finances, not the business. 'Cause I didn’t get the limited edition Big-Pharma/Tobacco/Oil version of H&R Block… no Graft category for me
That little pencil icon at the top right of an edited post does the same thing.
I give him credit for wanting to choose his words more carefully. More than what some are willing to do, it seems (not a jab at you… honest )
Depends on how well he sold the job. If it took less time than I would have estimated on a 750.00 bid I’d adjust accordingly but off hand I’d say 50.00 to 75.00
I give guys looking for a “finders fee” 10%. That is pretty standard from what I hear… around me. Most guys not in contracting field don’t seem to expect it.
A “friend” of mine got me a job 2 years ago. He expected a kick back. I gave him a shirt because he asked. The customer called me back and want their house done every year. He thinks he should get money every year… or a shirt.
Ridiculous! That’s not how it works. Now he is only my “friend” lol
This is an old thread, but i ended up giving him 10%
Clients $25 prepaid card.
Contractors $50 cash
Clients, $25.
A friend, 10%.
