What size 12v pump is best?

Well said! A drink to those far more bad ■■■ than we shall ever be!

So the guy I got the 7gpm 12v said I shouldn’t go over 200’ to 225’. I asked him if I could easily splice an extra 75’ to my 225’ 1/2” line without making a big bump in the connection (to roll up clean on the hose reel). He said I should not use more than I have unless it’s a gas powered setup. I told him I see guys with 300’ all over the internet. Can I use 300’ safely on a 7gpm 100psi pump?

Yes, I run 250 with a 5.5 12v 60psi and it shoots close to 40’. But you lose a lot with hose friction on these pumps so adding that extra footage will affect your performance some. But I use to run about 270’ with no problem with my 7gpm. Where you run into problems is when you add friction loss and head pressure if you’re up on a high roof. Something that shoots 40’ at ground level may shoot 25’ on a 28’ ladder. So 200 -225 probably sweet spot.

How high up can you go before blowing up the accumulator? I was told not to go higher than 15-20’ as if I’m off the trigger it causes too much back pressure. I went up about 30 the other day and didn’t have a problem (not yet anyway)

Run the accumulator till it breaks then toss it in the trash and dont buy another one you dont need it.

It’s all about the type of stain in this case. I use it for applying penetrating oil stains that are done using a saturation coat. You can put on too little but you can’t put on too much. My primary sprayer is a Honda powered rig that uses a GP belt driven pump. I have two 50 gal tanks in that trailer and I can stain out of a bucket too. I have 300’ of hose on the reel and another 50’ for extremely large yards. That rig puts out a lot more stain than my 12v. I recently did a 500’ x 8’ tall fence with it, it took about 2 hrs.

Ok you win, that’s flat putting down some product! Are you really rural? How do you handle the overspray?

No, I’m in DFW just North of Fort Worth. That particular property is on a huge lot, the neighbor’s have huge lots and they have an open field along the back with the wind blowing directly in to field that day. I did a much smaller one yesterday that took almost as long because the houses are tight to the fence line. I’ve gotten pretty good at playing the wind and if it is too windy I just don’t spray. Too windy for me is above 15-20 mph but then again it depends on direction and what’s down wind of me. On the one yesterday I soaked the neighbor’s house and my customer’s house with water and kept rinsing as we went in between them. Oil floats on the water so you just keep it wet and rinse. In some cases I will soak the house, walk stones, sidewalks etc. and then hit them all with Dawn and water from a pump up sprayer. Stain just washes off with the garden hose. On tight rock walls (using penetrating oil based stain) I will some times pre-treat with paint thinner, stain and then rinse with more thinner. You can see some of that stuff on my FB page in some of the videos I put on there. It’s SureShot Stain and Seal.

Just confirming, that’s with 1/2" hose, right, with those numbers? I’m putting one together this winter.

1/2" is probably the most common size for 12v systems. I believe that’s what Rick has on his setup as well.

I posted some on here a couple of years ago. I have had problems posting pictures for months. I am sure it is me but the forum does not like working with my computer. I’ll take another run at it though.
