It sounds ridiculous, I know. But before you jump on me please know that I’m extremely new and trying to learn all that I can before even doing my own home to be prepared for everything. A quick introduction to myself, I live in southern Ontario, Canada. I have a 2.6gpm 3200psi Simoniz pressure washer with some JROD tips I acquired for house washing. I’m a millwright by trade, still working full time. I’ve always wanted to run my own business but never could land on what business I could dip my toe in with minimal (ish) risk. Fast forward to now I’ve registered my business, have insurance waiting and just finished my logo today to begin advertising. With the weather warming up, I’m about to begin doing family properties to hone my skills and get some before and after photos for my brand. This leads me to the question I have now. What is surfactant? I understand what it does, it makes the SH stick to the surfaces better. But what in the heck is it? I saw someone had posted a list of commonly used surfactants and none of which seem to be available in store here in Canada (from what I’ve seen) so what constitutes as a useable surfactant for house washing, deck/fence cleaning, and concrete work? Also any general tips/suggestions of even just hello’s are welcomed and appreciated! Thanks
It’s basically soap.
You can use Arm and Hammer oxy laundry detergent as a surfactant, smells nice too.
Would this be considered a surfactant or just a detergent? I’m just trying to find something to mix with my SH but can’t seem to find any straight answers as to what actually qualifies as a surfactant. Thanks for the reply!
Okay so if I’m down streaming from a 1G 10% SH jug, what’s a good starting point for the arm and hammer? I appreciate your comment
1oz per gallon normally give or take when i used xtra laundry i think i did a little over 1oz per gallon but nothing to crazy think at one time 1.5oz per roughly
You will know if yoy put to much in wuen you go to rinse and it makes more soap trying to rinse hahaha
Here is a 3 second google search:
surfactant - surfactant , also called surface-active agent , substance such as a [detergent] that, when added to a [liquid], reduces its surface tension, thereby increasing its spreading and wetting properties.
Does your unit have an injector?
You might want to read a little more before you begin.
Thanks for the reply! It does have an injector with a siphon tube for down streaming. Can’t find anywhere the ratio to which it mixes chem with water so I’m going to do my own test once the weather gets a bit warmer… just had snow again yesterday >:( I’ve done lots of reading (prior to actually creating an account) and understood what a surfactant did, just not so much a basic example of what a surfactant could be considering the difficulty of getting my hands on things such as elemonator etc. although it can never be enough reading and I’m going to be sure to continually further my research to ensure I do the best job that I can
