Luckily this was my house and I have some extra siding. While it is 20 years old I can’t see how different soap caused this ( only change). Almost like it wouldn’t rinse and clung to the bottom part and didn’t rinse (of course I rinsed)
I only downstream at less than 1% but this looks like something you’d see at much high %.
Any thoughts?
Only thing changed was a new soap.
Is that the only piece that was impacted? What’s around that area? Almost makes me think it might have been painted/repainted with the incorrect type of paint… looks far too clean of a line to be caused by spraying chems/rinsing.
Nope not the only one. Have a bunch of varying degree but those are the worst.
It is rough to the feel but only in the affect led area. Almost like something like 6% dried on the bottom section of the vinyl. Tried rubbing (different piece) with more sh and rinse and nothing. Aluminum brighter did nothing and these are areas I can scrub by hand. Also no color is coming off when rubbing.
I’ll probably replace a piece and use the bad one to experiment on to see if I can change it somehow.
Like maybe I’ll let a a mix dry on it with that soap.
Honestly think it’s something with the soap because I never once messed up a vinyl house.
Just went out and I can scratch it off with my key. Still don’t see how .5-.75% could do this when I’ve done homes all day like this but I won’t be using that soap again.
Since there are a few pieces high up, any thoughts how to get this off? Also not sure if I’m going crazy but it seems worse than it did over a week ago when I did it and I did go back and rinse again.
Checked my tank that I used to wash it (6gallon batches I use) and it’s definitely the soap. It’s like a thick foam / scum layer on top of the sh and it’s only been there for 2 weeks in my enclosed trailer since I used it, I’ve had mixed batches in there much longer but with my previous soap this never happened.
We don’t know what ‘soap’ you’re using
I’ll take a pic of the bottle later. It’s from a pressure washing store. Cherry something.
Oh, I must have misread it… I didn’t realize that was build up and thought it removed the paint.
It’s the soap. Says on it use within a week and the rest I mixed is now very thick.
Guess I can try rewash with sh and my normal soap?
Some of my first soaps I used needed to be used within a few days or else they would get this real thick crud that was like pancake batter in there. I never dealt with that but would have to throw away a lot of SH. I swapped over to elemonator and don’t have that issue any more. Might be worth picking some up!
Switch to Snotmenade or Elemonator
Yea this was just my luck trying a new soap so I’m going back to my previous one that never gave me issues and doesn’t mind sitting in a mix over a week.
maybe your soap had citric acid in it.
Most people use elemonator. The lemon scent I never really smelled albeit briefly when opening a new jug but never in the mix. I tried another soap out once…once. Some apple stuff that never smelled like apples and tried turning my tank purple.
I am definitely with you on the soap issue. Could you let us know what soap you used so I don’t make that mistake. Thanks
This is what I had used that caused the issue most likely however someone else said to try CLR as a small test to see if it takes it off.
It didn’t come off with sh and sponge.
Aluminum brighter as a test did nothing.
I can not believe this is a soap issue. If that was the case, it would be all over, not just the bottom of a few pieces of siding. Plus, soap would be easy to clean back off if it dried on there. Something took the color off just in that area. Could be a defect in the vinyl or previous damage that was covered up and by cleaning it you exposed it.
A lot of word salad in the description then the directions say some stuff (click on the product spec sheet).
Not designed to be mixed with 12.5 SH.
If mixing with 12.5, premix 1-3 then add.
Do not overuse product, if mixed too strong solution may become difficult to lift from containers and difficult to rinse from surface.
Operator error
It was premixed with water before being added to sh per the instructions. Only a little used also.
Only thing is it may have been sitting premixed too long. Either way, not worth using , even if using immediately of the risks are there when other soaps are much safer to use.
I don’t know you and you don’t know me. I wasn’t there.
directions: Do not allow product to mix and store with bleach for long periods of time – use mixed product within one week.
Here is my .02 for you - learn from your losses (they say this in MMA gyms). If it seems too good to be true it is. Their description of their product would have had me running the other way. I can’t say that they were telling mistruths because they might hire some dbag lawyer to come after me. “Contains an extra penetrating surfactant to accelerate a more effective advanced bleach cleaning” is pure marketing nonsense. I have no idea how soap is extra penetrating, and how it accelerates (or speeds up) an advanced bleach cleaning (???).
Compare this with elemonator (i don’t have stock or ownership of it)
- Bleach Stability: Elemonator is the perfect partner for your bleach. Its unique formulation ensures compatibility with bleach, allowing you to achieve exceptional cleaning results without compromising the strength of your bleach solution.
I’m ok with that. It doesn’t react to bleach and bleach won’t degrade quicker by using it - good. Exceptional cleaning results - well, they do have to sell something.
I’m not busting your balls, I’m trying to get you to where I had to get to. I read everything and more importantly, understand products before I apply them to an experimental object - way before a house or a customer.
Sorry for the length, going to log off and finish painting a house today.
