I have a 1997 DeVilbiss Water Driver WGV1721 (5 hp gas Briggs Quantum) that I salvaged and got up and running. I’m going to need to get a new gun assembly since I see a crack in it. Everything else on the pressure washer is fine.
I have a hose and gun assembly from what I believe is a 2003 Karcher unit, and that hose and attachments are in good shape. The ratings on the hose and gun exceed the specs and output of the DeVilbiss machine. How can I determine what adapter I would need to use this hose? I can provide photos of both ends of the pump outlet and the “new” hose assembly if needed.
As it’s a “budget” project, I’m trying to avoid having to buy new expensive parts. I know the machine works, I fitted another hose from another machine on it and I get pressure out of that hose, but not the original hose. Since I have a spare hose from the Karcher set up, I’d like to use that on this machine.
The ratings on the Karcher gun exceed both the GPM and pressure of the pump, as well as the markings on the original gun that came with the unit. The machine runs really well now that I did some TLC to it. Starts up on the first try and runs very smooth. It’s worth fixing up for sure, but to spend $100+ on a new gun assembly and/or hose doesn’t make sense, since a neighbor gave me a complete working pressure washer he wasn’t using. But, seeing this one parked at the curb, I figured I would take a try at getting it up and running. Didn’t take much for that to happen.
Any ideas on what adapters I would need? I would have to think I could find something that would convert the Karcher hose to work with this machine.
I didn’t test it with the Karcher hose. I used a hose from another Briggs and Stratton gas pressure washer that I have (the one that the neighbor gave me). That one worked and gave me pressure, the original has a cracked internal piece, I can see it. Since I have this spare hose, I’d like to adapt it to fit this Devilbiss unit and not have to transfer the hose from machine to machine.
Correct. You can even take the hose to vendor and they will be able to give you an adaptor. These smaller machines have many sized fittings and attachments.
In “normal” times (non-corona) I would probably just bring both hoses to the local True Value and match it up. I could bring both hoses with me and show them what I need. But with that whole corona situation, I figured I would go online and get it done in the interim.
Sure, I understand. I’m just trying to use good parts I have on hand already, rather than expend money on it when I don’t need to. If I have something that works that can be adapted easily with using parts I already have, then that’s the way I’ll go.
I feel like I’m almost there with getting this thing 100%. Again, it was found curbside, so no telling what history it had before I got it.
LOL. I like doing the projects on the “value” side. LOL. I find them all the time, I use an MTD mower that a neighbor threw out to cut my lawn. The problem? He overfilled it with oil…rectified that, new plug and air filter (fouled and soaked with oil) and was off and running. Overfilling it gives the indication that the engine was locked up and that’s why it went to the curb.
Just used a Craftsman self propelled at my other property, also a curbside find—back in 2011. I’ve done nothing more than just regular yearly maintenance and one carb bowl replacement (it’s a Vector 6.5 Tecumseh). Runs great.
Got that adapter off Ebay and it was correct for both ends. I have ordered new O-rings for the Karcher hose set up as some of them look a bit brittle from age.
