Touch base with your past customers. I have a job tomorrow at a previous customer’s mom’s house. Saturday, the next door neighbor of a guy I worked for last year. I handed every biz card I had on me to the neighbor across the street today who came over to see what I was up to. Said he washed 5 houses for family members last year, 8-10 hours a pop from a ladder haha. He doesn’t want to do that again. You can also do 5 arounds, but I’ve found they work better when your customer eagerly grabs the door hangers out of you hand & heads over to Bill & Judy’s house. Sales & marketing are two different animals.

When I first started, I would send postcards on the yearly anniversary. I keep an Excel spreadsheet with every customer name and address. It started as 20-40/mo, but over a few years it grew to roughly 100/mo. I put a $5 coupon on the postcard, surprisingly most people didn’t use the coupon, but loved the reminder. It takes some work to add every job on the spreadsheet and make the labels, but really helped generate the repeat business. I’ve since switched to an online digital system that sends emails.
Another option that really kicked my business into high gear was moving away from the “homemade” website and hired GoSite to redo the website and manage the SEO. My sales went up about 50% within a few months and has been steady ever since. It’s been almost 2 years and I still have long time customers giving me compliments about the new website. I have a blog page that I can edit anytime and just use that to add what kind of work I do each day to keep keyword searches fresh.
One last thing to add - I was very thrifty with advertising in my early years. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have spent the money. For 6 years, I was only spending about $100-150/mo on the website and postcards. Growth was very slow, but steady. I earned enough to live on, but wasn’t happy with the slow growth. Now, I’m spending $500/mo for website and digital marketing and my sales are up 50% and continue growing.

and this…I don’t really get the SEO stuff beyond the basics (but anyone who says they do that isn’t full time at it is probably self-deceived honestly). Your website is 2 components, what you see, and SEO. What you can see on your site looks pretty good, but SEO is what gets the sales up. Great point!

The first company that did my SEO was pretty cheap…and you get what you pay for. I was blown away after making the switch. Yes, it costs more, but the results speak for themselves.

How much are you paying for SEO now and is it a one-time deal or recurring payment? and would you recommend the GoSite service? $500/month for the website and seo sounds like a very good deal, i currently pay $35/month for my website and $450/month on google ads.

GoSite costs me $139/mo, that includes the initial website build in 2020 and monthly SEO. At that time, they were not asking for any down payment for building the website. It was mostly a copy and paste from my old website, but their software comes with an editor so you can go in and make changes anytime you want. It only took a couple weeks to build the new website and go live. I mainly use the editor for a blog page so I can post relevant key words and show active, new postings on the website that search engines pick up on. Any time I start to slack on the edits, I see a small drop off in calls. I get back to posting weekly and the calls pick up again. It’s amazing how little changes can really affect your relevance with search engines.
The digital marketing is around $300/mo. They send my info out to all the major search engines and has a function that posts to social media automatically. I have it set for twice a week posts related to pressure washing. I will admit that most of the posts don’t relate specifically to what I do, but it shows Google I’m actively posting and that keeps my company relevant and on top of most of the local competition in the search engines. The software also provides scheduling with automatic reminders of upcoming appts and yearly reminders. It also allows me to send requests for reviews by email. This was a huge game changer for me. A lot of new customers mention the frequent and recent reviews as a reason for calling me. I was a little skeptical at first and after 2 years, I am loving the automation. One less thing for me to worry about and my customers have nothing but good things to say about this upgrade.

Your website needs to be SEO optimized first and foremost. There isn’t any meta data attached to any of your photos. Research your on page keywords for your area. If your running Google Ads yourself, learn the negative keywords for the industry for your area. With 67.4K impressions, I’m guessing you have
“pressure washer” as one of your positive keywords. Your ads are being displayed to every New Balance wearing weekend warrior in your area. Thats a waste of your hard earned dollars. Google ads are hard to master, and expensive if you don’t know how to properly set them up. One thing to guarantee a boost in on page SEO is to film some YouTube videos and imbed them onto your site. Make sure that every page on your site links back to home, or another page on the site. Otherwise, the Google crawlers have no idea where to go and won’t place any weight as an authority in the area.
