Waterboss gun PLEASE STOP

If you use a waterboss gun aND a flow sensitive unloader please stop. Yesterday during testing the gun failed. Causing it to leake then cycle the unloader so violently it ripped the gun out of my hand.was very lucky to get away with bruise. THIS PRACTICE IS WAY TO DANGEROUS PLEASE DONT DO IT

Good to know. The only way to use it downstreaming is with a flow-sensitive unloader, yes?

Neverrrrrrr, love it too much. Just kidding, I’m super interested in more details.

GPM of the machine, pump model, PSI the unloader is set at, brand/model/type of unloader, Waterboss gun model, hose length and diameter, and how the bypass is plumbed.

Also curious exactly how the gun failed and what part started leaking. Did the gun start leaking first, then the unloader begin cycling? Or did the unloader start cycling first and then the gun failed?

Thanks for checking in with us and I’m super happy you’re ok.

A possible failure mode sequence could be:

  1. something partially blocks the waterboss nozzle

  2. you pull the trigger but flow is lower than normal

  3. because the output is restricted pressure rises upstream

  4. flow sensitive unloader sees that pressure spike and starts moving toward bypass

  5. if the obstruction in the gun shifts or the gun starts flowing more the unloader can move back to spray mode

  6. that cycle can rapid cycle and it probably only take 2-3 cycles to hammer the gun to pieces causing total failure.

Yes, but still a chance for something tragic to happen…..I won’t use one in this application personally.

Nope the o ring failed causeing the unloader to cycle violently. JUST DONT DO IT I PROMISE ITS NOT WORTH IT

Yes, given what you’ve wrote, I think I’ll retire mine. Its not worth it. The suttner gun with the M5DS works really well for general house washing. Is that what you use/recommend?

That’s what I use, I have a Jrod with that and a shooter tip and that covers 95% of house washing unless it’s brick or something that needs a little more pressure. Great for downstreaming in most situations.

What model water boss, and what pressure/gpm were you pushing through it?

@Firefighter4hire hot water or cold water? Also according to a forum search you had yellow guns setup with 1/2” quick disconnects and you were using them for roof cleaning and house washing. When your water boss failed house washing had you previously used it roof cleaning?

I’m also curious about Nate’s questions too. You have a good thread started, and I think answering some of these questions would really help bring home your point and keep people safe. Most people aren’t going to be satisfied with “just don’t do it” without understanding what actually happened.

You guys are talking about using a soft wash gun on a pressure washer correct?

Lacking another explanation or some details, that’s what it sounds like to me.

I’ve found the Waterboss guns to be A+ quality and performance… when used within the pressures and flow rates they’re designed for. I don’t know Anthony or his setup, but his brief post causes me to wonder if it was a (sorry) obvious situation to avoid.

Glad nobody was hurt.

Those guns are designed for lower pressure, not high pressure. If you go by the instructions they are great….if you bypass the instructions you are taking a risk, period. I know now of several washers who had the gun malfunction and some hurt using on high pressure machines, regardless if using a flow sensitive unloader. I think the pressure spikes at some point and exceeds the guns capabilities and causes issues. I personally use equipment how the engineers designed it for, nor worth getting hurt. Just my two cents….be careful out there.

Instructions are for sissy men. When my fuel gauge breaks I just light a match and look in the tank. This country is getting soft, sound like firefighter4hire needs to hit the gym and get those guns under control. You get those guns under control with “these” guns. I use a 4x trap unloader and extra stiff squeeze gun just to get some extra work in.

this is humor for the brain dead people on the forum - I’ve never met firefighte4hire, he could be an olympic athlete for all I know. I’m old and fat, my best years are gone by, hanging on by a thread and the thread is ripping.

I used my waterboss today, just couldn’t help it. Perfect job for it around the delicate plaster work here when you need low pressure and the M5DS slaps a little too hard.

So i followed the Facebook trend and set my orange waterboss gun up on my pressure washer so i could DS with it. I knew better. But i did it anyway. I used it all summer till the other day. During a pattern change the oring in blew out the end causing the unloader to cycle quickly. It hit me about ten times before i could shut it off.

Oh yeah its my fault

I set up up like the Facebook book trend. I shouldn’t have done that. You cant run a waterboss on a pressure washer just dont do it
