Well I got the call today… living in a farm community I knew it would happen sooner than later!
Guy wants his house washed and “a ton of other stuff” like seeders and combines
I was straight with him and told him
1 I only have a cold water machine
2 I have never washed one before
3 I expected him to show me what he wanted done.
He agreed and I guess I get some paid (giving him a discount) education! He said he doesn’t need it show ready, just clean so it doesn’t catch fire from grain dust.
I’ll take notes for anyone interested.
Please note that I have always intended on this becoming an add on service and it’s not a spur of the moment deal. I have just been wrapped up in other avenues.
So here’s the first educational piece of information. If you don’t know what you are doing and the customer does, don’t be afraid to ask for advice.
We wash a lot of farm equipment. We use hot water on everything. Cuts grease, oil, and grime so much faster. If you have an air compressor or leaf blower use it to blow any material off of the equipment you can. Mostly talking tractors and combines. Once that stuff gets wet you’ll fight it and fight it trying to get it washed out.
Yep you’ll just wash it from one side to the other. Plus all the belts and pulleys it just gets to be a mess. You can do it with just a washer. But you’ll save yourself so much extra work in the long run if you can blow the heavy crap off.
Ended up ok. Really need how water for the job. I’ve been asked to do a few others but turned them down. Farmers don’t like waiting a month when our schedules booked out.
