So I just picked up an older Landa 4.5 gpm belt driven machine today for $250. I am trying to figure out where I place the bypass hose. I have been using a direct drive pump last season and this is my first time venturing into the belt driven world. I have been searching on here for info but I don’t see any other pump like mine as a comparison. Can someone push me in the right direction? Thanks!
That black rubber hose is the bypass hose. Plug where it goes into on the bottom and run a longer hose from the top fitting to your buffer tank.
Oh, thats it? That’s easier then I was expecting. Thanks!
Do you think $250 was a good price for this unit? I don’t know the hours on it but I know it wasn’t used kindly. It has United Rental scribed into the frame so it was most likely road hard and put away wet.
I think it was a great deal, If it lasts you at least 1 year!
@WiscoWashPros I would have paid 250 for it. I would go ahead and change all the fluids plugs filters and get a spare set of belts other than that put it in service. No way to tell what its going to do till you start washing.oh and get a kill switch people tend to be hard on them and it will go bad at the worst time possible
If the kill switch goes bad those 390s generally will shut down if you choke them while they’re hot. Definitely not a permanent fix to a bad switch but it works in a pinch. They’re only like $15 though if I remember correctly.
What would a kill switch do that the on/off switch wouldn’t do?
Same thing, different name.
Thanks! That’s good to know. Maybe I’ll just replace the switch now to minimize the possibility of that issue. Is that a common issue with the 390’s? This is a gx340, a bit older.
Well, I finally had the time to set it up and do a bucket test. First of all, the water that was coming out of it had a ton of scaley flakes floating in the water. Its like the pump was full of junk and was flaking off into the water. Any have an idea on how to clean that junk out? It also was rated at 4.5 gpm but ended only being about 2.5 gpm per the bucket test with 50 ft of hose. Is this pump shot? Or is there a way to clean it out?
Belts tight?
Yes, belts seem good and snug to me. Have you ever heard of scaley kind of junk coming out of a pump before @DisplacedTexan?
Out of a pump? No. I’ve seen it on hot water machines but that’s typically buildup in the coils.
That is exactly what it reminds me off. I am going to see if I can open the pump up tonight and see if it helps to determine the problem.
There ya go. Remember to look at the plungers very closely. Even the smallest crack really kills the performance.
