TSF general pump oil seal replacement diy

anyone replace the oil seals without the special tool, maybe using something similar?

I’ve never used any sort of special tools to remove or replace any seals. Just a pair of snap ring pliers and occasionally a socket to help seat the seals.

you mean the OIL seals, correct?
I figured as much that a socket could possibly be used.

Yes, you can remove the oil seal with a pair of snap ring pliers. You’ll just need a pair that have interchangeable jaws so you can use the 90° ones. I find those work best. Super cheap at Harbor Freight. Which specific pump are you working on? Maybe it’s different than the ones I’ve had apart?

You should do a youtube vid about it. NOBODY has one other than with using the expensive tool.

Ah, you know what I was telling you wrong. I have never had to replace one of those seals but it does look like that removal tool may be necessary to tackle that job. You might be able to sneak some snap ring pliers in there and get a hold of it but that area is very tight.

OR

Take a couple of tiny screws and drill them into the seal and then grab them with some needle nose pliers and give it a good yank.

In my head I was thinking of the low pressure seal just under the brass retainer on the manifold side and I thought that was an oil seal but it isn’t. It’s just on the low pressure side of the plunger and looks similar.

$50 doesn’t seem terribly steep for that tool though. Then you’d have it for future use.

You know what, let’s ask @dperez because he is infinitely more well versed in pump repair than I’ll ever be. Like I said, I’ve never done that seal and I’m not willing to pull apart a manifold to see if I can figure out a cheaper way to do it lol

My baby boy, with three months experience at the shop had this advice.
“Why not just use the tools you need for the job? And why use a general, we have to rebuild those all the time but no one has brought an udor in for a rebuild.”

look here mi$ter$…lol

That is not the tool that I saw suggested. The one I saw was just over $50 lol but it was the removal tool and that looks like the insertion tool?

that may be the wrong part#, but it’s that high for the insertion tool, or more. which is why im asking. i was fishing.

You might look around at some different pullers in the automotive industry. I’m sure there’s something similar that would work and it’s probably more mainstream in automotive so may be considerably less $$$.

Corkscrew style packing pullers work great for removal of most oil seals. Like DisplacedTexan suggested use use the correct size socket to reinstall with a little lube after it’s cleaned up.

@Redjess did you ever get that seal replaced?

ha, no. oil level is had definately risen since, i actually came here just now to report. powers wash store here said its a socket to drive new seals. I have an extra case I’ll just slap the head on it.

Well, shoot. I was hoping you’d come up with a nifty way to go about that. Here’s hoping my luck keeps up and I don’t have that issue lol
