Trailers

now that I’ve chosen my unit, I’m deciding between open and closed. Leaning a bit more twords closed, but $ is definitely the deciding factor. I like the closed cause its more of a mobile office and much more secure. Seems like I can spend 3-4k for a closed trailer to suit my needs. Open, I can get a 14-16 for less then 2k. Ill have my new hot unit, roof cleaning set up, 200gal buffer tank, 65 gal chem tank, area for 2 drums and a few pails, my 2 surface cleaners, then im gonna stack titan reels (4-6) all on the side for easy access. What are you guys using, open/closed? Where do you store it? Any advice helps. Thanks.

I like open trailers.

I would go open if I had the choice… unfortunately climate dictates otherwise. Of course enclosed does have the advantage of being a rolling 3-sided billboard in addition to your tow vehicle

I was looking at an open, with “inserts” for ad space. I’m in Minnesota, so I think closed would be ideal, but in reality, we could just store everything come nov-mar

I don’t know how things work for your business but I find at the start and end of the season there are a bunch of ‘marginal’ days of cold and bad weather. Enclosed will allow us to work many of these with minimal disruption / without having to fully winterise and store the rig each time we think we hit the end of the season. Not trying to talk you into it, just I’ve been over this a lot in my head recently lol

16 ft enclosed should be plenty big, correct?

I know lots of people say go as big as you can afford but it also comes down to the areas you work in, access etc… I think that should be plenty big. I’m currently looking at a 7 x 14 for my setup.

Dave I am looking to go from a 16 to a 14 foot open trailer. The reason is I can park it in my garage during the winter. As soon as I get a shop I will go in another direction.

Hey Dave I had both open and closed trailers over the years. For climate and storage reasons my most used trailer is Enclosed 8x18. You’d be surprise out how fast that trailer fills up. This trailer we locked up plenty of times on a work site where we didnt have to worry about taking it an hour and a half back for example.

In your climate I would suggest a Closed trailer. Also with theft on the rise because of the lousy economy its also another good reason to by Enclosed. Don’t me wrong. I just purchased an open 6x20 trailer because of the different type cleanings that it will be used for. Open and closed both have their strengths but for a piece of mind on those cold chilly nights sitting out there in the dark, Enclosed would be my suggestion for you…Good Luck

Dave I have an enclosed trailer and love it. Whenever I am not using it, it is under lock and key.

Plus this winter I will go with some type of wrap so it will be a traveling billboard.

When the time permits to get another rig I am contemplating buying a box truck and getting some
hot water skids (1 or 2) set up in there. Or possibly getting a big truck (3500) with a long flatbed.

I do like that I went with the enclosed to start though.

I put my third enclosed trailer in service this past summer. Here are some pictures of it. I recently had it wrapped, but don’t have the pictures downloaded yet, but will put them on soon.

There are some special precautions that need to be done to protect the floor in an enclosed trailer that may not be much of an issue with open trailers.

But what has had been said about getting the biggest trailer you can… that is so true. I started out with a 5x8, then moved up to a 14x6, and now after outgrowing that one, I went to an 18x7 v-nose.

Here’s our enclosed trailer. Made some mods to it since this video. Added a second axle, done some exhaust work on the inside. Next trailer will be a bit bigger with a side door. Other than that, it works great. Next change is adding a roof wash pump and hose reel connected straight to one of our shc barrels.

Nice setup Sam, and a very nice clearly explained video - top notch

Yes sir, That is nice.

I like to take open trucks that they are more suitable for a unit ans the equipment settled out very easily.I bought a truck open roof and it was cheaper for me…And all the equipment managed very easily and I complete my unit. So,I prefer open roofs trucks that they are comfortable…What you guys think about it.?

Open trailer. 7x16 here.

Same here…

Having seen Len’s trailer in person… I have to say it’s the most professional set up around. Everything is easy to get to and it’s all organized.

I have a 14 foot enclosed trailer and it’s sometimes tight when I have the roof cleaning equipment in there. You can save room by pumping your 12% into chemical tanks installed into the trailer, as opposed to carrying 55 gallon drums around. Not to mention carrying drums that are not secured properly is dangerous.

I may drop a new trailer off at Len’s house next winter and have him duplicate his system.
