Trailer Maintenance Recommendations

Same grease you use for your bearings. But if they make alot of noise could mean they are overloaded. You could be stressing them to much. Check all of the bolts but when you tighten them you need to take the weight off the leaf spring. Also check the bushings on both ends they mat need to be replaced.

There is a guy not too far from me who sprays the inside of people’s truck beds (the cavity between the inside bed and outside) with bees wax, I guess that would be the same. He used to use something else (can’t remember) but they outlawed it. Lots of hillbillies here use their old motoroil to oil their frames of their pickups, floor boards on their trailers, and so many other things. Environmentally friendly, probably not, does it work, from personal observation - yes. My buddy does his every year like religion the first day/week of fishing season. I crawled under his truck awhile ago, because I thought he was full of it, his 10 year old truck frame looked better than my newer frame. Made me a believer. He had like 300k on that truck. Of course he is a motorhead too. I don’t know if synthetic would work the same. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

Old motor oil has anti-rust properties. If you see any of these vehicles with a valve cover or seal leak, you’ll notice there’s no rust where it’s wet. It’s an old timer trick to spray the underside with it.

Any oil that’s thicker than water will disperse water. Canola oil will work just the same as motor oil. Spray your hand with cooking oil and try wash it off with just water.

Make sure that your spare wheel has a good condition tyre that is inflated to specified psi.
When you need it you really need it.
If your trailer wheel nuts are different size than your truck make sure you have a tool on hand to use when the time comes.
If doing big trips it’s also handy to carry a set of nuts, studs and a replacement bearing set with grease pouches.
