Topcoat sealer ‘bubbles’?

I did a topcoat sealing job two days ago and my customer sent me these pics saying the entire surface has ‘bubbles’.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Another pic she sent

Could be a few things:

-applied when temps were too hot (or got too hot)
-applied when concrete still had moisture in it
-applied too much sealer

Did you use an acrylic or solvent sealer?

Was there any old sealer remaining on the concrete when you applied the new sealer?

It did have some previous sealer on it but I did a quick surface cleaning as some of the color was washing off.

From what I gather doing it in the morning was a BAD decision. I should have applied in the late evening. It seems I can spray a light coat of xylene on the spots, let sit a few minutes and back roll, but wanted to check with you guys first.

What sealer did you use?

yeah you nailed it, if you used solvent based sealer, spray straight xylene and backroll.

Thanks guys, I used Euclid Super Diamond Clear with traction aid

Only a bad decision if it was too hot. Even at the end of the day, if the concrete itself is too hot, you’ll still have problems.

You need to spray the whole area. If you only apply to the spots, it’ll stick out.

I’ll be sure to take pics tomorrow, got the xylene tonight

Alrighty, the xylene seems to have done the trick. My sprayer got clogged halfway through but I still got it done.

Middle pic is the ‘after’. Thanks for all the suggestions, I’m still learning.

Surface sealers are very finicky.

Got that right. I’m rapidly coming to the conclusion that top coat sealers are a real PITA. I much prefer water based like VSeal

Final update, she said it came out nice and put all the furniture back in the patio. “See you in the spring!”:+1:

If it makes you feel any better, this happens on log homes too, but with checks that are backer rod/caulked and then the sun comes along and bubbles it. Moisture in log gets heated up and the liquid tries to leave.
