Tool tip: ClampTite hose clamping system

Your too strong my friend, wait till you get older, the pliers get longer :face_with_hand_over_mouth::face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I’m already there man, I had to use my engine lift to get these heads out the other day. I can vaguely remember the day it felt like I could one hand them out and back in.

And with 32 head bolts to torque in three stages I realized I hate wrenching now.

What did you grenade? lol

Nada, just wanted to run another cam and freshen up the heads besides I didn’t like the way one of the valve seals looked at me

Looks good :+1: what’s the mileage at?

Yeah, I could see the bands being just a little better for spiral suction hose. The wire wants to follow the spiral; the band seems like it would provide more even clamping force around the entire circumference.

What was your preferred tool for each method?

Clamptite CL201 and the Band-it Jr tool C00269 that you have to roll to complete the banding. They have center punch bands/tools that are used when you have limited room to work with but in all honestly I think you’d be better off with the t bolt hose clamps for anything not forever forever permanent.

400,000 on that big block gasser. I rebuilt it myself at 340 and it’s the second time I’ve have the valve seats touched up. I run those heads about 200 before I want them refreshed.

Where do you get your clams from Lowe’s only carries PEX sizes and they are not cheap

That’s the one I’ve got.

I don’t expect you to watch the whole thing, but could you skim through my video and see if I’m using it incorrectly? I start with it around 7:40 or so.

I always wrapped the wire in the way that allowed me to use the tool with the nose facing away from me and big wing facing me. You can also use the wire nut immediately after cutting the wire to length to help wrap the wire easier. Also you do not wrap around the bottom posts only the top. Your wire will route over top of the bottom posts not around them.

And you’re lucky you weren’t working with real hose as real hose doesn’t stretch like that lol

@MuscleMyHustle love oetiker clamps

I’m an idiot. :joy:

I did a number of connections on suction hose; yeah, it was definitely more work (edit: oh, you probably meant stretching a 5/8” hose onto a 3/4” barb. Yeah, I don’t make a real habit of that. Polyurethane based hoses/tubing seem pretty forgiving, though).

I can’t imagine the unnecessary strain I was putting on myself and the tool by wrapping around the bottom posts… I’m an idiot!

Thanks for all the other helpful tips. I’m gonna have to delete that video and upload a new one… :man_shrugging:

Don’t feel too bad, I once installed a set of front brake pads on backwards (metal to metal). In my defense I was rushing, young and very tired.
