This type of A/C

I almost never do commercial. Been asked to clean a motel with grungy vinyl siding and these in-wall A/C units. Softwashing vinyl is easy enough but I’m wondering if anyone with experience cleaning around this type of in-wall A/C can advise whether I should plan on plastic-ing off these grates, or if it’s just not a concern. Covering them up seems prudent but will double my time on site so if somebody knows for sure that they’re not a concern, it would be good to know. Any knowledgable input would be appreciated.

I plan to shoot everything from the ground, high volume/low pressure application and rinsing alike.

Thanks in advance for your input.

My rule of thumb; if it’s already exposed to the elements & not part of the wash, don’t shoot soap directly at it & give it a light mist for the rinse so it thinks it’s drizzling outside. This is why we rinse with soap nozzles.

No experience in washing these, but, I don’t think plastic-into them off will work if the building is occupied - someone’s going to turn theirs on and starve the unit of fresh air potentially damaging it. I like the above reply with if it’s already exposed let it be, but don’t shoot directly into it.

Makes sense. Thank you for the input.

Got it. Thank you for your reply.

Agree with @TheWizard ….

I did an old age home with these at every room. I washed them with a wide fan (M5) and rinsed with a wide fan while doing the walls. I didn’t want to hand wash them all, that would have been at least 60-80 units. Some I still hit lightly with a soft brush because junk was on the grills and wouldn’t loosen up with the wide fan spray. A little agitation did the trick and another wide fan spray moved the junk off. I wasn’t worried about water coming down the wall, rain does that, I was worried about hitting them dead on.
