I would like to start a system where I send some sort of thank you to existing customers when they refer new customers to us. I know I can send a simple thank you card, but I was hoping to be a little more exciting than that, lol. What do you guys do when a customer sends more work your way?
We send them a $25 restaurant gift card of their choice. We have had single clients send multiple referrals for the cards! We know the job we are doing is because of the referral so the $ is billed into their cost. Therefore no loss of profits.
I was leaning towards a restaurant card but I wanted it to be a surprise so I didn’t want to ask them to choose a restaurant lol
It can still be a surprise, just in the form of a phone call. And when clients know of the rewards they tend to work harder to get more new customers for us! New clients=$$$
There is no substitute for face time with a client. No matter how often you email, text, call, write…whatever - it just doesn’t compare to face to face.
I think the small gift is a great idea. But I’d suggest, if at all possible, you deliver it in person. Even if it means it takes longer to get it into their hands.
Just my $.02
In person is an excellent idea. My service radius is quit wide so it may not always make sense, but when it’s feasible, I definitely think I’m going to do that.
I gave a pool company owner twenty bucks for a small referral… Never got a referral from him again.
I now think ahead with pricing out the referred job
I offer a cup of coffee in the form of a 5 dollar star buck gc. Maybe I’m too cheap.
Customer referrals are some of the best leads. I bet the roi of the card idea is one of your better options.
In any business…a hand written sincere card of thanks is a big plus…Not sure on the GCs…sorta bribing the customer and you could give a coupon for double that for the next job you do. Repeat business vs. paying clients for new leads. Word of mouth will make or break you either way.
I had 400 clients in my former biz and never spent one cent on marketing…Be better than every competitor and not overpriced and you will have enough biz.
I am trying to break into the market in my 750 home Golf Community and a guy that lives here charges 100 per drive way…Seriously…How am I beating him? I charge the same and have the clients write a check to St. Jude’s hospital and then they feel good about paying
I’ll knock him out of biz in quick order as he is keeping all the other 6 companies from competing in my neighborhood and then we can compete on a quality and cost metric
Do you feel that $25 is good enough? I dont want to seem cheap when I send out my thank you.
I use Housecall Pro. They get a customer note with a $50 referral credit. If they refer 5 or more people their next service is free and we call all customers annually to see if they need anything so they get to take advantage. If it’s on the same block I’ll stop and knock and say thanks in person. Either way, I send out a stack of handwritten thank you cards with anchors on them each week. My girlfriend got a million of them at TJ Max or one of those. Ex-Navy. Squid’s. It fits the theme. Lol
Sometimes I prefill them about 20 at a time when Emma is watching something silly on tv and I’d rather be writing thank you cards… Some say, thanks for your kind review, thanks for your referral, or thanks for your business
So every customer gets a handwritten card, and told that if they refer someone they get a $50 credit on their next service? Or do you only send the cards out to people that have referred people to you? Cool way to do it, either way.
Everyone gets a card. I’m like Oprah with these things. They get a thank you card for a house wash and another for referral.
They’ll get 10 hand written thank you cards if they do business once and refer 9 people.
