Hello all! This site has been incredibly helpful already, as I’ve been lurking for a while. At the beginning of the summer my boys age 10 and 12 started a small business pressure washing peoples trash cans hoping that they could make enough for an XBOX this November… long story short they worked their butts off all summer with a used $40 pressure washer that we rebuilt the carb on and made enough to buy a few XBOX’s but instead they used their money on a nicer pressure washer! They started their own LLC, they got insurance, and are learning to build a website as we speak. I planning on helping them grow slow over the next few years. I’ve really appreciated all the incredible answers in these forums. I had a couple questions that I was struggling to find answers to:

  1. They purchased a Landa 5GPM 3500psi belt driven pressure washer, do you think this needs a buffer tank? Love its portability as configured and certainly seems to be designed to be used off tank but also don’t want to burn it out without a buffer.
  2. The pressure washer has electric start and will most likely live on a trailer, is it okay for this to be stored in the rain or should we invest in a covered trailer?
  3. If you were going to get a set of JROD tips what size would you get? Seems to be slightly less volume than the 5.5 machines but running at a higher pressure.
  4. What size surface cleaner would you recommend? I’m getting conflicting recommendations from local shop between 16’ and 20"

Thanks in advance!!!

I commend your boys. How did they get insurance when they not old enough to run the equipment?

On the newer equipment I will need to be the person primarily running the equipment. They plan on helping water things down, helping with hoses, loading and unloading equipment.

Awesome to see you’re allowing them to work for their money. I first started earning money by pushing wheelbarrows of concrete for my dad from the age of 12. It was nice having pocket money to be able to buy stuff that I wanted, I was able to share with my friends and it taught me the importance of managing my money well because once I spent all my money I had no more left!
IBS has you sorted with great advice.

Pocket money! Man you guys grew up in luxury. When I made my parents proud i got a piece of bread with jam and a fist full or raisins and a clip around the ear if I didn’t eat the crust lol

“A” clip around the ear? With that mouth of yours I’m sure you got multiple on a daily basis.

I cut up a BBQ grill cover and it does a great job sheltering my machine from the rain
