Just got my new WW Classic and it comes with an 3/8 inch inlet hose. How are you folks hooking up your surface cleaner. I was planning on using my Suttner gun, but it is 1/4" outlet. Are you using a ball valve and inserting a QDC on the end?
I use a ball valve
Ball valve
Ball valve
Trigger gun is by far the most effecient and quickest way to use surfacer
Yeah, but the inlet on SC is 3/8"
Change it to 1/4
really? I thought they used a 3/8 hose for more flow. Seems counter intuative to go smaller on the inlet.
Confused.
Your nozzles connect to the same size quick connect. I didn’t tell him to change the hose, just the connection
I must be missing something because I can not make sense of what is going on in this thread! Trust me it’s not an issue with reading comprehension. One I don’t think you figured out what you need and two why are you trying to hook up a gun to a gun? lol
Go to 1:50 sec mark
I don’t want to lug around a ball valve and want to hook up to my SC to a male plug. The SC now come with a 3/8 inlet hose. Seems to me a 1/4" plug on a 3/8" hose doesn’t make sense. A little confused, that’s all.
It will be a very minor restriction to flow, maybe the equivalent to having an extra elbow or two in your plumbing. I would trust @Innocentbystander’s suggestion as a viable option.
The dealers claim that they improved the SCs by upgrading the inlet hose to 3/8". It was originally 1/4". To me, it seems like defeating the purpose of the hose “upgrade” by reverting back to the 1/4" plug, make sense? But, since the spray bar remains the same, I guess it’s all a marketing gimmic, I dunno. If you look at IBS’s video, that is what I am trying to accomplish, removing the “gun” on the SC and just using a male inlet plug,
The hoses used to be 3/8 but they got cheap and went to 1/4 for awhile. You aren’t losing any significant flow using the 1/4 inch nipple oon 3/8 hose. Exact same size as the nozzle quick connects we all flow out of. Anything that will allow you to get rid of a ball valve on the end of the hose is an improvement.
Your video is great and gave me the idea. Leading with a male plug makes much more sense to me now. I purchased the ball valve and related fittings and it seems very bulky and heavy. Gotta be a better way. It seems using equipment wrong when leading with a female socket. And if using a female socket for output, at least put in a plug to prevent blowing the oring out.
Gotcha, I run my ball valve right after my burner and lead with a nipple on my hose. I can’t have any wobble in my wands so I have a different trigger gun for every wand length. In your case you’re wanting to reuse your same trigger gun so you would adapt your SC hose to have a 1/4" nipple for the 1/4" coupler on your trigger gun.
And just food for thought, I run 4.6gpm through 100’ of drilled out 1/4" hose and only end up with 600 pounds of back pressure. So with reducing down your 3/8" SC hose you will not loose flow so much as create a tiny bit of back pressure.
“In your case you’re wanting to reuse your same trigger gun so you would adapt your SC hose to have a 1/4” nipple for the 1/4" coupler on your trigger gun."
yes
