Sudden uptick in pressure washing start ups?

I’ll wash your house if you wash mine and then we can record it and make a billion dollars selling “How to make a billion dollars on youtube” and “grifter 101” courses.

Another thing I notice with all of these youtube guys is they always say you might need a surface cleaner, and you can get by with a 3 gpm machine. They just want as many people in their market as possible. No barrier to entry at all besides my course!

One thing I’ve noticed in my area the last couple years, is the new guys going all out buying the super expensive, high end equipment right away. It’s at least a $12-15k investment. A guy down the street from me was out of business in less than 2 years. I started small and built up to the high level upgrading along the way. I have no problem with other guys spending the big bucks, but it amazes me they’re willing to invest that kind of money on a hope and dream.

same thing. I never called the m bandit signs untile all the people on here were calling them that. I just use the term here. They tend to put them at the gas station on the corner about 6 miles away, always at lowes by the stop signs, and by every sheetz (gas station/store chain) that they pulled into to get gas and cigarettes probably.

well, seeing as how his worker welded up my rig, they give me happy bottom and hoses for my rig, and I have advertisements (signs) at his business, I consider it fair play. His house is directly across from his storefront. He is with me painting this house today (little chilly right now to paint). Sometimes he is my partner on gigs, sometimes he is the help, sometimes he is the boss. About 90 percent of the time we do our own things. We used to paint together like 30 years ago, we painted million dollar homes then.

Just about 40 years of friendship isn’t worth any money to me, just don’t need money that bad. I’m a part timer, so I don’t have to “account” for the time.

To each his own. If you and your friends want to charge each other for services, I’m okay with it. I do all kinds of quid pro quo work for friends and family friends.

That’s pretty much exactly what they did here too. Looks like they drove the major routes and placed one about every mile. I’m surprised they haven’t been taken down yet, actually.

My CSR actually tells folks, “the barrier to entry is low, all you need is a PW and a truck, and the truck seems to be optional these days…” then he points them to our reviews and references… :joy:

Is this said during the course of trying to make a sale?

When they say, “I’m going to get some other prices…” In the process of telling them essentially, “you get what you pay for”.

I say something similar. Anyone can spray water but you can make it as complicated as needed. Theres a massive difference between a knowledgeable pro and chuck with a simpson and no insurance lol

It’s just so tacky to use the smallest possible yard sign. To me, it makes it look like you cheaped out. In my mind, and I’m never considered normal, if you cheaped out on signs, what else did you cheap out on.

My signs are bigger, and I thought they were just average yard signs, not supersized.

I went with “full colored” 24in x 18in signs. I only had a total of 4 printed, but I like the size of them. The black background and the colors in the logos make them stand out I feel. I also have a black truck and black business cards, so I’ve got the theme going for me I guess. Lots of the white with blue print or yellow with black print signs everywhere in my area.

I agree. My signs are larger as well. Yard signs don’t work well around here in my experience, tough maybe it’s different if you have 100 of them scattered around.

unless you’re posting them on the current job, which is a different thing atogether, then volume is the only way to determine if they “work or not”. Putting out a few here and there does not give you a sample size that is statistically viable to draw any conclusions from.

Those guys are my favorite. They are always bringing me something to fix. Im starting to see the big guys putting out yard signs because they priced themselves right out of there own market. As far reviews go i dont know people hunt for them. You dont need them. I bet i do t have 25 total. We have plenty of work.

Haha. I never understand companies that value google reviews. But i dont chase that kind of work either

I mean, clients value them…so why wouldn’t we? :grin:

Almost everyone loves referrals…why wouldn’t you want a perpetual referral?

Dont need them to be honest. The bulk of my clients aren’t going on Google or Facebook to look at reviews. Im not saying that you cant use them as a tool if you need to generate work. I just haven’t had the need to make the phone ring anymore than it already does. But i also dont believe in yard litter, Facebook marketing, Google ads. Never understand why you need those things to fill a schedule

Some areas/people rely heavly on them. I know people check out my google because they tell me so, and having a better ranking does occasionally help land commercial jobs. If your mostly conmercial then i wouldn’t think its as big of a deal.

That depends on how many schedules you want to fill…when all 4 trucks are booked, then I’ll buy another, and need more work to fill that one up… I don’t stop at “how do I fill up what I have” :wink:
