Stupid Computer Machine

I figured you or maybe @Ikii would know more about these things than me. I used to be get the one with the biggest ram,cpu and graphic card and you would be fine but this thing has great reviews and low cpu.

For $300 seems like a great buy for just building my website and seo.

That is what the school have given my kids to do their homework.
But they returned after a week.
They only use it at school.
Cause it is just a “browser” notebook, google docs, internet based.
I personally wouldnt get it, not even for my kids, they use their own custom built, which allows then to browse faster and do things faster.
Now their rigs are over 1300 but that is because they use hand me downs

You can built one yourself for 500, just hardware and it will last you.

This will let you do your website using world press.
It is just a bigger note 8 phone without windows.

My personal favorite are off lease corporate laptops like an IBM t440. They’re built to a much better standard than consumer machines and have decent horsepower. Should be about $350-$400 in very good condition.

I built my site (well, godaddy) using my samsung note 8. The S pen rocks! Dont need a $300 laptop, just an $900 phone lol. But really, its the way to go for me. And bluetooth it to a portable printer and print nice looking reciepts.

@ikii im not sure if i have time for that lol but i have been thinking about it. I also have alittle A.D.D. doing boring things that take awhile will take me 10x as long lol.

@Sasquatch i like that laptop id differently buy one of them instead. Thats a great price but they are out of stock. Ill search around.

@Nashvillewash i could probably do it on my phone i have a LG stylo 4 which i love im not a Samsung fan anymore. They turned into apple 2 years ago. You wont catch me paying that much for a cellphone ethier lol.

Thanks for y’alls advice. Love getting honest reviews on things.

Be careful- 30 year IT vet here. Most tablets are not cheap laptops. They generally lack real computing to be much more than web browsers or run simple apps. You can get a real laptop for as little as $300 that you will be able to be productive on. Chrome books, iPads, etc are toys and not much different than a current smartphone.

For anyone wanting answer to Grizz question.
Specs to look for in lower cost laptop or desktop:

  1. Generally speaking Windows machines will cost less than anything Mac. You will need some skills if you go Linux. Those are the three major full Operating Systems.
  2. Full Version of an Operating System. Windows RN for example is not a full version and has limits. iOS is not a full Mac version. Stick with Windows “whatever number” Home, Professional or Ultimate. For Mac, stick with OS “whatever number or name”. If it states iOS then it is a mobile or lite version. Full versions will give you the greatest flexibility for use.
  3. Unless you are an advanced user, you don’t need the best specs. The latest and greatest for most won’t do much for you. Unless you are a serious gamer, doing extensive audio/video production or huge database management/hosting, the cheapest processor will do fine for everyday productivity applications, surfing the Web, etc. Same with any other spec.
  4. Use Dropbox or some other cloud based file storage. This protects you from file loss when you machine dies. A lot of them are free for several gigs. I pay $99 a year for 2 terabytes of storage. Well worth it, especially if you have multiple devices such as laptops and desktops that you work on same files between all.
  5. Stay away from E-machine or Compaq brands - total garbage.
  6. Acer and HP have decent reliable machines for not a lot of money.
  7. Set expectations - a $300 laptop will last 3 years with care. Maybe longer, but for everyday users that is a realistic max life. Spend more, Will last longer. Never expect more than 5 years with any Windows machine.
  8. Use free CC Cleaner or other system cleaner once a month to clean up system and fix common registery issue that slow down the machine.
  9. I like Malawarebytes for videos protection. Stay away from Norton, McAffe or most other big name virus protections that come with machine. They suck, and slow a machine down to a crawl.
  10. Use web based e-mail such as Gmail. They have the best scanners and reduce exposure to viruses since you are not downloading message to you device but viewing them online. Outlook or other device applications where the messages are downloaded to the machine for viewing are outdated and a terrible way to handle email.
  11. Use Chrome or Firefox browser. Stay far, far away from Internet Explorer or Edge. They are riddled with security flaws and utter garbage.
  12. Gmail business suite is the way to go. For $10 a month, I get much. I use their Voice app for example for free as my main business line. The app lets me link real world phones so i have 3 people that when my business line is called all three of our cell phones ring. A call never goes unanswered. If they text the number, the text goes to all three of us. Gmail suite also has so many other features worth several hundred dollars a month for only $10.

If anyone has specific questions, just holla back.

A Chromebook. Several companies make them. I use an Acer made one. Need a google account to use them I believe.

Nope, she was right. but for 99% of us 99% of the time, that’s not really a problem now is it?
