Streaks on Stucco, thoughts?

You brushed the paint off. If it was the SH, it would have affected more areas. You didn’t need to brush it at all and you didn’t need someone rinsing plants while you washed it. Pre treating is a reference used when you apply a chemical before pressure cleaning the surface such as concrete. You can’t rush the process when cleaning something like this, you let the chemical do it’s work. You should have applied it and let it dwell for a few minutes before rinsing. If you don’t see a difference before rinsing, apply again and let it dwell. Repeat this process until it comes clean. During so you can up the strength of SH a bit if needed and you can keep the landscaping wet yourself while it dwells.

You damaged the wall while attempting to wash it. No matter what she said before you washed it, if you didn’t let her know you may remove the paint, this damage is on you and your company. If she isn’t happy with the damage you caused I wouldn’t even attempted to charge for it. You’re lucky if she doesn’t get upset and try to get you to fix the damage you caused. In the end, it’s all about keeping a good reputation for your business and keeping the customer satisfied.

Yes I agree, if she does decide for whatever reason that she doesn’t want to pay then I won’t contest it.

@wap2dem you shouldn’t be gung-ho’ing anything if this is your first attempt at doing this on this style of material lol. This could have been a perfect house to learn on and see what different percentages of SH do on different sections until you find the sweet spot and hit the whole wall. Next time keep the brush at home, a brush is really the last resort if multiple applications don’t work, even then ide be cautious. I’ve learnt the most by making mistakes, so take this as a positive not a negative.

Yeah I won’t be whipping out the deck brush in a hurry thats for sure!

So I ended up getting paid for the job, her neighbour wants the same thing done. I’ll be doing it this Saturday, however I won’t be using that brush!

The same thing happened to the neighbors side. I treated it 4 times, let it sit for around 10 mins and rinsed off. I got up on a ladder with a white scrub pad and VERY LIGHTLY rubbed it, the paint was coming off super easy, so there was definitely an issue with the paint.

They were happy with it anyway and are planning on getting the whole facade repainted in a year or so time

@wap2dem what’s in your mix? If you had to mix 20 litres in a container what would your steps be.

It’s not unheard of for these builders to use interior paint outside when they get in a rush. In fact we ended a … not a partnership but cut all ties with a builder who was doing it intentionally. The painters came to us and told us about it, a rep went out walked the site, then told the builder that we couldn’t keep selling them paint if they were going to use it like this. Big stink all around.

12.5% SH, apple wash surfactant and water. Bear in mind I’m using a 8l handheld pump sprayer (I’m pretty sure surfactant doesn’t work very well through a pump sprayer, am I right?). If I was doing a 20L mix, depending on how bad the organic growth is I’d aim for a 2-4% mix, so around 15l water, 5l SH and some surfactant.

The paint was coming off with the water pressure from the hose when I was rinsing it off.

And I was standing approx 3m below where the mold was

That’s the problem. You are using meters instead of yards.

Only 3 countries use the imperial system

After all the advice you were given, you still pulled out a ladder and decided to scrub :man_facepalming:. Lightly or not, agitation will do more damage than rinsing with low pressure.

I had to bing and see if imperial meant normal or the metric stuff.

The paint was coming off with the water pressure alone from rinsing after application of the chems.
