Start of the season

Snow is melting, and the weather is warming up…

Menards has pool shock back in stock (plus their 11% rebate started this past weekend)…

For those of us in the Midwest, the season is right around the corner!

What are your goals for this year? Business? Personal? Other?

Must be nice, not getting over freezing here this week and lows without windchill around 4-13 F. Normally weather doesn’t really break here until mid to end of march. Every year they say the same thing, March roars in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.

You must be in the south of Oh hi no. :grinning:

Central Ohio, It was 7 today when I took the kids to school and will stay in the 20’s all week. Should be up into the mid-40’s next week with dips into the 30’s overnight. Hoping to start the first or second week of March but waiting for consistent 40 or higher nighttime temps… don’t want to have to keep winterizing every night.

In Lexington, Kentucky it’s snowing right now, so……4-6” coming Wednesday. Lows in the single digits. We usually don’t start up till mid march the earliest to late march.

You must be getting what we just got on Saturday/Sunday. They were calling for another 1.5-2" on Wed, but thats now changed to rain.

We got warm and got rain a couple of days ago after a snow, which turned it all to slush. I spent 2.5 hrs scraping the drive down, because I didn’t want to wind up with 1" of ice. Then it turned bitter cold with wind and snow and I got about .5" of ice again, and I had 2’ high drifts in my drive. Going out now to re scrape the drive. I’m procrastinating, because with the 30+ mph winds it gets a little chilly even with insulated bibs. It’s 10 out but they say it is -3 with the windchill, at least the sun is shining. Maybe I should move off the mountain.

I’m slowly making my way to the south, grew up in WI so Ohio feels like a vacation this time of year.

No we got snow on Sunday morning, couple inches. More today and then tomorrow……we get snow in March too occasionally. Crazy weather….it was 72 degrees 2-3 weeks ago…lol.

Yeah I grew up in Maine…a lot of snow there when I was young.

Yeah, the weather’s been all over the place the past couple of years. Last year, I was still getting jobs done in both December and February. Columbus sits in a pretty good spot, right where the north and south winds meet. We usually catch the tail end of storms passing through but rarely take the full brunt of them.

we had two mild winters in a row and the hillbillies are losing their minds this year. I remember the more severe winters we had and always assume that this is what winter will always be. All the stores are now out of salt and calcium chloride because the snow pros/plow boys didn’t stock up on salt for their trucks and they bought out all the supplies. I just don’t understand people I guess, they used to prepare for winter and were more resourceful.

good for you, keeps heating costs down. Plus warm weather and moisture is future tacos in the bank for you.

I could definitely use a good year this year. Blew out my flexor tendon at work and it required surgery so the wallet has been a little light this year. Bought a Toyota sienna hybrid cash for the missus this year right beforehand too which was nice …but…pre cash on hand would have made me feel a little more comfortable that’s for sure :joy:

High 40’s to mid 50’s this week and next… going to pull everything out and fire it up… knock on wood… might be jumping the gun, but I’m ready to go and have a list of clients that are as well.

:joy:…you’re ready to go. Think we’re going to wait a bit more. Usually pull out rig 1st week of march and get everything up and running, making sure all is good. Pick up some SH soon……have a ton of estimates to get done….i guess we’ll need to start soon too.

It always seems to come up quicker then I’m ready for… so this year I’m prepared. Thats one of my goals for this year as well. To be better prepared and on top of things… estimates, ordering supplies, etc.

Sounds like you have a plan! Hopefully your season is busy……

I order supplies (not SH drums) in late nov for the write offs, as I am winterizing and touching up the rust on the trailer so it isn’t worse in the spring. As much as I don’t want to even start doing estimates and talking to people, I just got another insurance bill…stupid business and inland marine policies

Not firing up my rig yet, we are still getting 14 degree nights but the highs are low 40’s, might be close to 50 next week one day. The worst snow storms I have ever seen have all been in march. I’m eager to get my hands in the dirt for my garden. Running out of veggies.

There is one day, technically night, on the horizon that will dip around the 20’s. That’s the only thing that’s worrying me right now. May hold off until later this week and reevaluate to see if that temp will change.
