Hey, guys. I’m adding pressure and soft washing to my window cleaning business. I’ve searched around and haven’t been able to find an answer to this question: How do you solo guys soft wash your roofs? From what I’ve gathered it’s best to have a ground guy soaking the foliage as another works on the roof. I’m a little concerned that as a sole operator I’m going to damage plants. What’s the best way to go about it? One side at a time?
Can’t help with the one guy roof cleaning. Somebody will be along in a bit to offer some useful advice.
I just did another solo roof today. Bag gutters, wet plants and foliage with garden hose, shoot soap from my ladder, rinse windows, siding and plants as i go, clean gutter bags out and reinstall them, touch up roof as needed, rinse about 1/3 of roof and flush gutters, dump bags again, rinse foliage where i know i over sprayed, flush my bandit, pack my tools, on to the next.
It isn’t easy doing roof cleaning alone but if you hustle it can be achieved.

As a solo roof cleaner, your biggest concern should be falling and breaking your neck, especially on the tiles roofs you have down there. At least having a ground guy around you will get to the hospital quicker instead of laying in rose bushes hoping someone heard the thud of you hitting the ground
As if your scenario needed more negative imagery than the broken neck… Thorns??? Wow, maybe we could add fire ant mounds as well…
Anyways, on a serious note…
YES, the risks of going it alone suck but i am very interested in learning how to harness myself and work on fall prevention and working as much as possible from ladders. I did have to get on this last roof in one section but it was a 4/12 and easily navigated. I much prefer all work from a ladder and will continue to promote my efforts to sustain that pledge.
Any suggestions on tying off on a roof without truss anchors or trees? Do the anchors that are lowered into the roof stacks prevent falls? Anyone have educated info on this??

Thanks for the reply. What do you do to protect the yards of homes with no gutters? I’d say 90% of the houses in my area don’t have any.
Or you can use 100% bio degradable non toxic, non SH based products. Safe for plants, animals, pets. That is what we’re going to be using and do it solo and stand from the ground to clean the roofs with our 10gpm 300 psi roof system skid. Maybe a ladder too but thats it. You’ll probably have to walk on the roof to pressure wash the roof if you plan on using the wash-safe stuff.
Falling is a real concern, every year we hear about someone falling and getting hurt and most times there is someone around to call 911. Many of those falls happen when people get over confident, like you on a 4/12 pitch roof. Being added to the “Darwin awards” list is not something to be proud of, but to each his own. Good luck
Flood well with water. Learn to use only enough cleaning solution as needed. Flood again before leaving. I also rinse about 1/3 of the roof just for my peace of mind that I am limiting runoff after i leave. Some guys don’t do that and never have issues.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I figured flooding was probably the answer to my question.
All of our trucks have 2 or 3 guys per truck. Safety is our #1 concern when it comes to roof cleaning, 65% of the roofs we clean are tile roofs which can be slick when treated, the last thing I want is for an employee to fall off and not be able to receive immediate help. One of my employees fell from his garage roof one afternoon while doing a repair and nearly died because no body found him for hours. While plants and runoff are a concern they are a distant second to safety.
