Soda Blasting pros and cons

Has anyone tried soda blasting? If so, how has it worked? Pros? Cons?

I’ve used it on a car and it worked great.

I’ve only ever had it done in automotive applications also, frames, cylinders heads, diff housings etc. there really are no cons to soda blasting in the right application. Key pros include less abrasive than other bead forms, less heat distortion of larger unbraced panels, and many more I’m sure on a more nerdy level. Over all highly recommended. And yes very messy.

What about on limestone?

I guess you could but it’s a waste of time, takes too long. I’m not sure if you know but soda blasting isn’t the same as spraying chemicals or water out of your wand, you have a matchbox size area that does the work depending on the choice of equipment, it’s not really suited to what we do and what our typical residential customer would want to spend to make it worth your while.

One of my main services (behind fence & deck staining) is hard water stain removal on brick homes. I used to use the attachment that goes on the end of the wand for the really tough job that chemicals wouldn’t get. I would media blast with kieserite.

I don’t do that anymore. Too much of a pain. If chemical can’t get I am not the man for the job.

Depends on what your trying to accomplish. Just did a solid months worth. Hundred year old glass. Windows with the weights and some slide up in the wall. Was a fun project. You can soda blast the old wavey glass but it will etch the new stuff.
