Smoke damage on aluminum from fire pit

Any ideas on this guys? They had a fire pit on the patio that destroyed the roof of the patio. Tried a 3% mix of sh with no luck.

Dealt with this exact thing recently. I did a small test section with EBC and it did the trick. If you don’t have EBC, another degreaser will probably work. Do a small, discrete test section to make sure it doesn’t have any adverse effects though. Dilute it and make stronger if necessary.

Edit: What is the deal with people who think putting a fire pit under vinyl or aluminum is in any way a good idea? lol

Thanks man I’ll get some ebc and try that. Concrete is pretty bad also underneath may try it there as well.

Yep, hydroxide based degreasers will corrode aluminum. I thankfully discovered that on some squeegee channels I left in my bucket. Otherwise it could have been an expensive mistake.

Good to know! The area that I had to use it on was all vinyl from where they’d had a fire pit underneath it. It definitely pays off to test small, hidden areas before doing something that may screw you big time.

@Mr_G I owe ya a cold one thanks for the advice on this. Turned out better than the customer and I both imagined

Looks good! Did you downstream or direct apply?

Thanks! This was done with a pump sprayer. I sprayed a 5x10 section hit with a brush lightly then rinsed right away. Each section was done in about 5 minutes so dwell time is 3 minutes max

Thanks for the info!
