Simpson Pressure Buildup

Hey everyone, I have a Simpson ps60843 with a EW4040 pump on it. I pulled it out for the first time in a while and it starts perfect, but then after about 30 seconds on the surface cleaner the washer bogs down, smokes and shuts off. After that the starter cord is hard to pull until I release pressure from the surface cleaner. Any ideas on how to proceed? Thanks in advance!

Did you leave some gas in it while it was stored?

Relieving pressure to make starting easier is typically needed if you don’t have a bypass set up.

I did. I’m very new to pressure washing and typically my other stuff gets used regularly so I didn’t think about that. Could that cause the issue? If so how would I fix it? As far as the bypass how would you set that up?

Drain out all the old gas, pull the carb off, and clean it up. 90% of the time that’s the first thing to check when old gas is involved.

Setting up a bypass would involve getting a buffer tank and plumbing… with a direct drive pump, like the one I believe you have, you can try to gravity feed it, but upgrading to a gear or belt drive pump would be a less troublesome setup. So if you aren’t ready to carry a water tank or upgrade I wouldn’t worry about that yet… if the machine dies on you just remember to pull the trigger to relieve the pressure before walking over and restarting it.

Thanks so much. I will start there!
