Simpson 4/4 ALH4240...Buy or Not?

Not trying to freak out here, but I’ve been reading on the forum about how everyone hates Simpson. Are they that bad? I’m a little worried that I bought the wrong one. It hasn’t arrived yet, so if you guys say it sucks, then I’ll cancel my purchase!

I also messed up and got a 24” BE Whirl-a-Way surface cleaner, lol. That was my ignorance, but how slow will that be or will it even work at all and should I return that as well?

My goal is to just start off with driveways and move up from there.

Not trying to create a debate here, but why does it have such good reviews on Lowe’s, and pressurewasherdirect websites? Just dumb people thinking it’s great?

Thanks for your guys’ help! I always appreciate blunt honesty backed with facts.

Thank you, thank you, thank you again for all your help in bearing my burden of ignorance!

It gets good reviews on Lowe’s websites because homeowners buy a lot more pressure washers than commercial contractors I would cancel your order and get a good machine

I agree with IBS those reviews are homeowner driven. They get unboxed, started up and used twice a year. Trust the guys that keep them hot 8 hours a day.

Do you guys recommend this one? Seems like it’ll fix both my problems, lol.

Your guys’ experience is very valuable to me. Thanks again!

That’s way too expensive for a gx390 motor, you also need a pump, hose, surface cleaner, fittings, Wands, tips etc.

Ya, it’s like $1300 worth of engine and pump there, don’t think there’s $1k worth of crap there otherwise.

Well I called and cancelled the pressure washer. The 24” SC is being delivered today. At least I’m back to square1 on the PW!

You guys are the best! (And y’all also saved me so much money, time and headache!)

Still open to recommendations on a 4gpm PW.

Budget is (sorta) open to anything. Or maybe do soft wash? Most homes around my area (Ridgefield, WA 98642) so it’s all new construction with new driveways.

Ok…hold on a sec.

First off you don’t do ‘new’ driveways ie concrete until they are about 2 years old. Surface cleaning new concrete will strip off the top layer. Concrete hardens with time.

Second, get a belt drive unit so you can draw from a buffer tank. A 4/4 will work but you’ll appreciate a 5/2500 a lot more if you start housewashing as it rinses a lot better. Only drawback is it will struggle on really dirty concrete.

Of course everything can be solved by getting an 8/3500 v-twin right off the bat but those run about $4000.:flushed:

Yeah I didn’t realize that my market around me is mostly fresh driveways, which means no touchy.

I need to learn more about buffer tank set up and I guess a trailer now for the tank. My passport only tows 5k, so maybe I need to take another step back haha. Thanks for your help and your time :+1:

$3149 for a GX690 with udor pump, udor gear box, and Honda muffler all assembled on a skid. Sprayer depot. Have to call to order.

What??

That’s what I paid for mine. My reply was to your $4K for an 8GPM post is all.

Oh I know, just shocked at the price.:+1:

Might have to pick that up for next season, that’s a good ■■■ deal

The alh4240 is my main washer. I have about 600 hours on and change the fluids every 50. Rope just broke on me this year no big deal. Previously i replaced the wheel bearings because they got all loose on me. I also added thick washers and grease the whole area when it needs it for vibration and wear and tear. My frame actually has a stress crack under wear the motor bolts that happened a couple years ago. Simpson will replace it because the frame has a 10 year warranty or something but i don’t want " an authorized dealer" touching my stuff. So ill beef it up myself. I’ve also noticed stuff in the fuel tank. I don’t know if it is rubber from the gasket or what but i take the tank off and wash it out but it does seem to effect anything. I love it otherwise. A belt driven unit would have been the way to go though.
