I am getting things in order and planned out to begin roof cleaning.
What I am not sure of is how those that do roof cleaning purchase and store their SH.
I have been in contact with a couple pool supply stores I have worked with before for pool
chemicals. Both have the one gallon bottles of 12.5% and can get the 50 gallon drums,
neither can get 5 gallon pails.
Based on the quantity needed for roof mix, SH purchase and storage has to be a big factor
to consider, even for small companies such as mine.
If anyone wants to share their system I would appreciate it.
I was just getting ready to post a question about this as well, not to hijack, but this may go right in line with the OP’s question. I am buying SH in 5 gallon cans that are clear. I recently read that the SH can go bad sitting in the back of my truck (open bed). I washed a house on Thursday with SH that had been sitting around for 3 weeks maybe in the back of the truck and it seemed not to do well, it was a very moldly house and some areas I washed three times to get the mold off. The house I washed on Friday was with new SH and it was very moldly and it came clean crazy good. Of course I use Elemonator on the Friday house for the first time that could have something to do with it. Anyway I would like to keep some SH in the truck in case a job comes up while I am out window cleaning. Any thoughts, am I ok to leave it for a week or two, should I put it in a different container, should I find room for it in the truck box? Any thoughts? Thanks for the help.

Opaque containers on a warm day in the sun kill it quicker.
We started with Sams Club Clorox. It’s always (relatively) fresh and I think that it is 8% now.
Or investigate the dollar store near you. Read up on their bleach label. All bleach should have a manufacturer date code on it so determining age should not be an issue.
Plus 8% will not degrade quite as quick as 12.5%
Fitz Do you have a garage or shed that you could stock a few cases in? We always tried to decant the Sams jugs into 5 gallon jugs so as to not look quite so redneck on the job.
Some pool stores will fill containers that you bring. Some hardware stores sell bulk SH and will fill containers also. Call around and ask- you can pick up opaque 5gal containers pretty cheap.
@ Tim4. Yes I do have storage room, and out of the direct sun as well. I think I will start out buying by
the case until I get settled in, maybe figure something else out later. Tim do you ever mix SH and roof snot
in draw tank before leaving home and add water at the customer home?
@ Nick. I have heard from another helpful member the bulk loading. I have not found such a source around
my area as yet, but will keep looking. Thanks.
Am I better off putting the bleach in a different container? Like a 5 gallon bucket that is colored, or a blue water container or something?
Thanks again for all the help.

For the same reason that you don’t tug on Superman’s cape, you don’t spit into the wind, if you dump water into the wrong chemical, you’ll never do it again.
Water into chemical can cause extreme reactions depending on a number of different factors.
Chemical into water allows those reactions to be more controlled. And you may have a chance to back off before ugly happens.
Also, if you are pouring water into a container of chemical, the chem can easily splash back in your face. If you pour the chem into the water, it is the water that splashes out at you.
If you cant store a 53-55 gallon drum and your not doing roofs your best bet is the good ole dollar store bleach. If your doing roof you need the 12.5% which will probably be at 9-11 by the time you bring it home. Try to find a Univar or large chemical distributer in your area and stay away from powders and tablets. 2-3 dollars a gallon is where you want to be on the price
Bret_Mayo Thanks Bret, and it looking more like I would be doing more roofs right off the bat.
Probably start out with buying the 4-one gallon jug cases to begin with until I figure out storage
and easy access for 50s.
If you will be doing mostly roofs you’ll run through a drum in 2-3 roofs. The drums are usually a dark color which will help keep sun out so just put a tarp or some other type of cover over it and you’ll be fine. For roofs it will last you 3-4 weeks without having to add a bunch much more to the mix. I’ll use it 2+ months no worries for house or concrete cleaning.
So I understand then, I should get fresh SH after 3-4 weeks for the roofs, providing I store it properly. Then use the
older stuff for house mix. Cool, nothing should go to waste then. Much help, thanks again.
