So I am trying to get some info on possible bad reactions around industrial gases. I was able to find a SH incompatibility Chart. Propane was the only thing I know that shows having a reaction to SH according to that chart. There are 3 bulk tanks one of each of the following: Oxygen, carbon dioxide, and propane. We have other smaller cylinders of argon, nitrogen and some mix gases. Does anyone have any experience with this type of situation? The Building is 46,000ft2.
This is the best photo i could get. It’s basically metal and stucco on the front the blue line is faded and is getting repainted so I’m not worried about fading it. I am however concerned it may stain the tan below thoughts?
I’m not sure on the bulk tanks. With the stucco part I wouldn’t worry too much about staining the bottom with the blue, trick here would be to do it in sections and keep the mix wet at all times, don’t give it time to set. Spray a little bit of mix stronger than you would use to wash it in a corner or something and that will tell you everything. From my experience oxidised run off doesn’t really stain, certainly hasn’t been the case with any multicoloured stucco I’ve done with 3% mix.
Hi PWP, I used to be CEO of a transport company which specialized in moving Industrial Gases, Is it just the building your cleaning or the storage tanks also ? Are the tanks housed within the building ? is the building watertight ?
If your only cleaning the building and its watertight there should be no risk although to impress them put a short risk assessment together and submit with your quote. (this will show you did your homework, most of these guys are usually engineers and they like that approach) the risk assessment should state valves of storage tanks should be closed and covered, windows in vicinity of storage tanks and cylinders should be closed, no filling of cylinders should take place during cleaning process, employees should not enter of leave premises during cleaning process.
@MuscleMyHustle the stucco doesn’t really have any type of heavy build up that part is in the sun all day. I’m thinking just my normal hw mix and a good rinse. Thanks checking it out.
@SteveBoyle the tanks are outside close to the building. I’m going to call the company that fills them and get some solid info. I work here and the owner wants me to walk with him today to give him the layout. Thank you for your response.
Little late to the party. You should be fine with SH on those tanks as long as they aren’t leaking(and they shouldn’t be as they’d be violating numerous osha regs). Cover valves as well as any other emergency blowoff regulato, disconnect any hoses and you should be fine.
