Setup for cleaning water tanks

Good afternoon everyone,

I’m just starting the research phase for a business and wanted to throw this out to see if anyone else was doing the same thing. I would like to set up a pressure washer and tank on a trailer for the purpose of cleaning out the inside of mostly plastic and some metal water/rain storage tanks, up to about 5000 gallons in size. Has anyone here done this? I have searched this site and haven’t found much info specific to washing out tanks, and was hoping for some recommendations as far as washer psi/gpms or any other equipment specs that y’all have experienced working for you. Thank you in advance for any input!

Welcome lostfish,
I have also been exploring cleaning ideas for tanks.
I’m going to trial some possible techniques on my 5k gallon poly tanks.
First up I will drain tank and test turbo nozzle on extension wand .
I’m sure there is going to be a lost of rinsing involved.
Hopefully there is someone with some experience that can enlighten us.

Thank you Aussie. I’m glad there are others thinking about this as well! There is not a lot of information out there about it, hopefully we can figure it out! I’m still learning about the right size of washer to obtain and building a trailer for it. I’m thinking one would need some sort of shop vac or sump pump as well to get the last few gallons out that dont drain.
