Dont Bother ?? Good relevant back links with specific anchor texts is STILL one of the best ways to get top search rankings.
I believe the criteria used to determine relevance has changed in recent years. I don’t think reciprocal links from similar sites in other regions do much of anything, anymore. Google has gotten wise to the “I scratch your back, you scratch mine” strategy.
Some forums that have follow links might still hold some power, if they are high ranking themselves. But I know the two forums I spend the most time on, have no-follow linking (here and WCR).
The biggest results I’ve gotten with my sites are from proper citation building, along with decent content and a little blogging.

True, Backlinks are not as powerful as they once were, but they still hold some weight. as long as they are relevant.
good and fresh content also tops the list, And they say the MAIN SEO method is now “ratings” such as Google my Business, YELP, And Angies List.
Which i find odd, cause how would it be to join a forum, and ask members to Rate you on Yelp or Google in exchange for you rating them ? HINT HINT lol
