This is just a PSA for whoever needs to hear it!
Get the gloves.
Get the safety glasses.
Get the respirator mask.
Wear appropriate clothes.
Always remember your safety and health comes first! You can’t work if you’re hurt!
Yesterday while adjusting my mask and glasses, I dropped my soft wash gun and instinctively caught it against my side, pulling the trigger and spraying mix directly into my left eye. After a quick and super convenient ER visit, my eye & vision should be okay but it was awful. I obviously didn’t finish the job and now I have to push other appointments back while dreading the impending medical bill. Not great for business.
While I was “being careful” and wearing safety gear, I still messed up and it has been a wake up call for me to stay focused and aware of the consequences on the job. While I’m sure some will think I’m a fool and that it won’t happen to them, I wouldn’t wish this kind of incident on anyone and hope y’all can learn from my accident!
I got sketched from using that trigger gun on my softwash system and switched to a plastic ball valve. Also using those full coverage eyeglass shields, and respirator with anything over housewash mix.
When starting out in 2018/2019 I accidentally blipped the trigger on the wand and shot a hole in my rubber boot.
You might be thinking of someone else. I blew a drum in my buddy’s shop, but I managed to avoid much direct contact. Inhalation during cleanup was no joke, though. N95 really doesn’t cut it for such serious exposure…
They make bleach masks that are much better than a normal n95. I think they’re normally blue and are labeled specifically for use with bleach. Hopefully you don’t have a similar situation happen again, but just in case!
You can get free masks now from certain stores due to the government taking your tax money and buying overpriced items then giving them away free to citizens. The limit is supposed to be 3 per person, per visit, per store, while supplies last.
