Was at a buddies house and he told me his RV awning would be a good before and after pic, so I gave it a shot. All I had with me was 6%sh in a pump sprayer and a brush. It took most of the mildew off, but some stains remain. They said they tried dedicated awning cleaner and household bleach. I told him I would come back with my rig since the whole rv needs a cleaning, but looking for suggestions for the remaining stains that didn’t budge. I assume I need a surfactant in the mix? Plan is to try a hot mix with the 12 volt and scrub. I’ve also read on another post that 1,000 psi may be needed? First photo is before and the rest are after.
Tried brown out and oxalic acid at high rates with a long dwell time and no dice. Also tried 1,000 psi. It belongs to a friend and he doesn’t care, but I do for the experience. Hate not being able to solve a problem. The Brown Out I got is by hydrachem and I can’t seem to find it anymore. Thinking I need to get the one by estream. Directions seem much different.
What kind of awning is that? It almost looks like slats inside of some coating. Anyway, if it is rust an acid would do it, followed by an alkaline soap (to neutralize). That is what the rubber scrubbers basically do with a 2 step gun. I guess I could summon the resident wizard on rubber scrubbing … maybe he will chime in.
@Dirtyboy, If I was doing it I’d use a 2 step wash on the whole unit and I’d use aluminum brightener on the rust stains on the awning with a pump up sprayer. Then I’d coat the whole thing with hydrosheen wax.
Just realized I didn’t respond to your first question. It’s a 2019 Shasta oasis rv, so according to Google, it’s vinyl. I would agree after seeing in person, it appears to be vinyl.
Just so you know, you will be wet sanding it essentially. Can do the same with 3-4k grit sandpaper. It will remove anything on there with enough scrubbing. A magic eraser is a melamine sponge and it has grit. I get this all the time from people who say my walls are dull and patchy, and they have been cleaning it with the magic eraser.
