Rust Removal

So I’m testing out this rust removal on my driveway. The spots came out but now it looks like this. I used spray bottle of 5 to 10 parts like the directions said. Let dwell then sprayed off with hose. The chemical contains oxalic acid. What did I do wrong. Even-though the rust stain is removed now it’s a really clean looking circle that stands out from rest of driveway.

Surface clean the rest of the driveway and I bet you will not be able to tell the difference. That is how you would sell it to the customer. Plus another add on would be to clean all of the concrete with a brightener… That is how I would approach it. ~Eric

What Eric said.

My proposal would read something along the lines of;

“Spot treat to lighten rust stains. Clean and brighten driveway.”

Thanks guys. Got a driveway to do tomorrow. Two rust stains looks like its from their vehicles. Would it be best to spot clean rust with oxalic acid first. Then wash driveway with house wash and after that brighten rest of driveway with oxalic acid ? Does it make big difference if driveway is wet before I spray the oxalic acid??

I would wash the driveway with house wash mix as normal. Then spot treat the rust and brighten the whole slab with a weak mix of oxalic acid.

like tim said above, it’s best if you treat the whole effected slab to make it blend in better. or so say the 100 videos i’ve watched :slight_smile:

Yea, it’s the only piece of NC I could take with me to the blustery cold North. Plus it stands out up here and invites everyone to ask, just like you did.
