This hasn’t been my experience. They aren’t alive…I think you are thinking of what the industry calls “enzymes” which are actually live bacteria.
The idea behind the quats is that it kills and then rain and wind carry the dead mold/mildew away. If you are going to do a controlled test you should rinse lightly with water and a blow dryer to simulate what a house goes through, every 3 days or so.
