Retaining wall cleaning; best practices

Every time I do a retaining wall I come home looking like a kid who lost a mud fight. I’m good with how to clean it (chems, equipment etc) I’m wondering if anyone has suggestions on not getting legs coated and face splashed with mud when you do the lowest tier. Does anyone successfully use plastic or plywood? Best I’ve come up with is keeping the lance very close to the stone, parallel (so the stream doesn’t shoot down into the mud) at about a 45° angle so the crap blows away from you. That works ok until you get the stones that are concave.

15 foot extension wand should do the trick

Yes, maybe call my local SWAT team and borrow a riot shield.

for stuff like that i’ll throw on my rain pants cause i don’t know if theres a great way around it. And when i’m doing retaining walls and brick work I always have my glasses on.

It’s just one of those jobs. Face shield, rain suit, boots and gloves. Prepare to be covered. Keep a rag with you to wipe the face shield off

You can buy a splash shield but they look gimmicky, not sure it would last very long in a working environment. Rain pants and gum boots work the best. As above, it’s just one of those jobs.

Ah yes, brick walls. I wear a face shield but can’t see out of it in five minutes. Bits of mortar and brick always come flying back at my face.

I’ve always just thrown down a partial sheet of plywood when needing to clean down to bare dirt or mulch. You only need about a 12” wide sheet to keep all the crap from blowing everywhere.
