Respirator for roof cleaning

What have you found helpful when you are cleaning a roof wearing a respirator. What kind do you use? What filters do you use when wearing it and do you wear it all the time.(you should)…

I use the one with the pink filters, which reminds me, I need to get more filters…

I purchased the disposable masks, but rarely wear them. I know I should.

Do you guys wear one when doing house washes?

I don’t wear them for house washing, but I won’t do a roof without one.

Lou, do you use the full face model? How hard is it to keep clean?

That’s the same kind we use Jim.

Usually downstream concentration is not strong enough for one, but ifs an enclosed space with no air movement you’ll need one.

Thank you Guy, I didn’t think it was necessary on house washes.

Only did 7 roofs last year, wore a mask for 3 I think. 100% every job this year. I always thought they would freak people out. Stupid I know, but already 12 roofs on the books for spring and we are masked up every time. House washes, probably not. Dilution is high enough that your not breathing the nasty when outside.

I use a mask 100 percent of the time in roof cleaning. Since roof cleaning is 90 percent of our work i were a mask alot so much that my wife will laugh her a$$ off at the funny tan line on my face

It is understandable that people could be alarmed.

Kindly explain the difference between occasional exposure and occupational exposure.

Besides, they won’t be underfoot asking questions when you’re properly PPE’d. Save that for after the job is complete and they are admiring your work.

There, no big words now.

we use the half mask with the pink filters, then for house-washes we use the disposable ones for household bleach… Home depot jsut started carrying the disposable ones

Doing roofs, I use a 3m brand typically used for protection from interior oil based paint spray fumes.

Does anyone have a link to direct me to the pink ones?

Roof chem is just to strong especially on hotter days to mess around inhaling it. In all seriousness its probably a good idea to wear some kind of protection even house washing because its only a matter of time. I’ve heard guys who have been doing this a while become really sensitive to any kind of bleach products.
