Residential Paver Sealing Rigs

Hey y’all, I am adding paver sealing to our list of services this fall. Do any of you have examples or advice on the portable pump rig to spray the pavers with sealer…?

I’ve used fancy battery powered pumps, backpack sprayers, metal hudson sprayers and every single one has clogged up or the gaskets have eroded or the sealer eats away at them. Depending on the size of the job, I’ll just buy some cheap pump sprayers or backpack sprayers knowing that it’s going to be a 1 time use and if I’m lucky and flood the tank and lines out, I’ll get a second, third use out of it. The metal hudson sprayers last the longest but are the heaviest and due to their tank shape, not wearable. But those will last a few seasons and replacement parts are easily available.

Yeah @Historic I hear they constantly clog. What advice could you offer if I want to make a more permanent option to avoid clogging of the nozzles…?

Always have extra nozzles/wands on hand. They’re small and easy to hide in a toolbox. They’re made out of brass and are easy to break or bend. The nozzles never really clogged on me unless it was some type of grit like dirt or sand. I got in the habit of having a few bobby pins on hand to unclog a tip. Use water based sealers like siloxane. As soon as you’re finished, flush them out with water on site. Leave the lid/cap off to dry.

Pretty basic stuff but you’ll be the only one to care about the $150 sprayers. Your crew will leave chems in the tanks or not tie the tank upright in the truck and it’ll roll around in the bed, etc.

@Historic Have you tried using an airless sprayer?

I have not. That might be a very good option for larger projects. Have you?

@Historic My last two jobs I did. They went so much quicker than using the back sprayer or pump up that I have used in the past. There was some overspray so I’m looking at trying a larger tip to help cut down on that.
