General pumps are typically every 4 or 5 hundred hoursr. Udors usually are good for about 2500 hours. The couple of times it has happened in the field I’ve just put a spare pump on. Much easier and quicker. I’ve done them back at the shop. Usually they go to the landa shop at around 2500 for a pump rebuild. There are videos that make it easier but its a pain without the right tools
I take mine to a local guy. If the pump is old then I just replace it. I use cheap general pumps so they don’t cost as much to replace… Unlike IBS I don’t have the volume of work that he does so my pumps last several years. But I am big on preventive maintenance … Its a Navy Thing…
If I can get 400-500hrs out of a pump…and I can replace it for $650,why in the world would I want to spend half that amount to rebuild it? Remember…it is NOT NEW when it is rebuilt.
I would rebuild one pump…only to have an extra to use until I could get a new one to me.And, it would probably make more sense to just buy a new one to have on hand.
Depends on where you are in your business. Loss of production is costly. 400 hours is about 12 weeks of washing. If I had to replace packings or mess with 8 pumps that often I would go crazy with the amount of money I was losing. I’m with you on spare pumps. If a truck goes out of town it has a spare pump on it. Engines can be found most anywhere out of state.
