Removing sealant

I have a customer that needs a water based sealant removed from pavers. what works best?

Thanks

Anyone Bueller

I have no idea. I did one job removing sealer (from stamped concrete) and have never looked back. No fun.

@Thad

A customer of mine is convinced the patio portion of their pool deck has some kind of sealer on it. Their kids are constantly slipping if any water gets on it. In the picture, you can see its the whiter patio on the left.

Any suggestions on what can remove it? Thad, you mentioned it was “no fun”

Could be hard water staining - we have it at a bunch of older shopping centers where water has pooled over the years from irrigation, rain and pressure washing.

Hard to tell from the picture, is the concrete stained?

The one time I removed sealer I had to soak each section with stripper and take it off a little at a time.

Now it’s an automatic “Pass!”

I’m also wondering about what Steve mentioned.

It looks to me that the concrete is textured and is designed to be non skid… Is it painted as well? Have you checked to see if it’s porous and absorbs water? Sometimes a film is slippery when wet, other times a poorly applied coating allows hydroplaning. If it’s painted or coated, perhaps the best solution is to clean it and advise the customer to have it recoated with a textured paint or a coating with “shark grip” included for extra traction.

Ugh, still getting used to navigating here…
I’ve had some success stripping wb sealers with Soygel and Jasco strippers

I ended up telling the customer that this job was “out of my scope of expertise.” He was a bit frustrated that I couldn’t help, but at the looks of it, it would have ended up a nightmare for me.

If you are certain it is just a wb sealer I’ve had success with Soygel and Jasco stripper myself. I didn’t enjoy it though
